Update from Sierra NF:

The fire is currently holding. Crews are constructing fire line and utilizing aircraft to contain and prevent spread.

The fire is 426 acres with containment increased to 10%.

Tulare County Fire Type 3 Team assumed command of the Max Fire on July 14th, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office evacuation orders are still in effect for residents in the immediate area of zone K61.

Update from Sierra NF:

Size: 428 acres

Sierra National Forest (SNF) fire crews continue to direct control lines around the fire. The steep rocky terrain prevented the use of bulldozers in several areas making the initial attack much more challenging. Triple-digit heat has also been a factor, creating an additional safety hazard for firefighters.

The Sierra National Forest Max Fire is currently working with CAL-FIRE’s Fresno King Unit. As of 6 p.m. today, the Tulare County Fire Department Type-3 Incident Management Team will assume command of the fire.

Approximately 500 additional firefighters have been ordered to the area to assist with the incident. Crews are working aggressively using handlines, bulldozers and air attack vehicles to suppress the Max Fire, including four fixed-wing and three rotor-wing aircraft.

Fire Activity: Temperatures yesterday reached triple digits with observed fire behavior exhibiting moderate to rapid rates of spread. The extreme temperatures combined with rugged terrain/topography combined to make the fire resistant to control measures, only the combination of aviation resources and aggressive ground operations kept the fire from burning more.

A new fire perimeter that shows the fire is 426.8 acres has been uploaded to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and is visible on the Active Fire Perimeters map layer.

Note: Fire perimeters are preliminary and indicate general burn area but do not reflect structure protection efforts by firefighters. A structure within a fire perimeter may not be damaged or destroyed.

The fire is estimated to be 300 acres, crews & aircraft continue to make good progress - the heel of the fire is holding at current control lines, the left (west) flank is holding in the retardant & crews are making good progress moving north w/ direct handline on that side. The right (east) flank is also holding & dozers are working south along that flank towards the 10S69 Road - all per Incident Command.

Update from Sierra NF:

The Max Fire broke out on the Sierra National Forest shortly after 1 pm this afternoon and is located southeast of Barnes Mountain and northeast of Pine Flat Reservoir in Fresno County.

CHP and Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are responding with localized evacuations of forest visitors and campers in Blue Canyon and establishing road closures on Dinkey Creek Road, 10S17, Trimmer Springs Road, and 10S69 Big Creek Road.

A full response was initiated that includes two large air tankers (LATs) along with multiple engines and hand crews. The Sierra National Forest is the lead agency for this wildfire.

The fire is estimated at 288 acres and continuing to grow as it burns north northeast towards Blue Canyon in grass and oak woodland with a rapid rate of spread.

Air Attack has ordered 3 night-flying type 1 water dropping helicopters & a HelCo (coordinator) for tonight due to significant fire growth potential. For tomorrow morning: 4 air tankers including 2 large air tankers, plus 4 type 1 copters have been requested.
