I just watched "Cinderella Man" again for the umpteenth time and I still consider it one of the best boxing movies of all time, right up there with #Rocky & #RagingBull, which told the true story of James Braddock, a down & out club boxer to goes on to defeat #MaxBaer to become the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World in 1935.

Baer was born in Nebraska but raised in the #SFBA and lived for a time in Livermore. No mention was made of Baer's (half) Jewish heritage in the film but Baer made it an issue by wearing the Star of David on his trunks in a non-championship fight with Max Smelling in 1933, who was reportedly a favorite of Hitler's, who he knocked out in the 10th round. Baer continued to wear the Star of David on his trunks in every match thereafter but it was not shown on Baer's trunks in the film.
