John McBride (Seán Mac Giolla Bhríde) died on 5 May 1916 in Kilmainham Gaol. He was executed by the British government for his participation in the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. McBride took part in the Second Boer War on the Boer side, for whom he raised the Irish Transvaal Brigade which became known as MacBride's Brigade. 1/2

John MacBride (Seán Mac Giolla Bhríde) was born on 7 May 1868 in Westport, County Mayo. He was executed by the British government for his participation in the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. McBride took part in the Second Boer War on the Boer side, for whom he raised the Irish Transvaal Brigade which became known as MacBride's Brigade. In 1903 he married Maud Gonne.
