No one really knows what #mattresses are meant to gain from their lives either. They are large, friendly, pocket-sprung creatures that live quiet private lives in the marshes of Sqornshellous Zeta. Many of them get caught, slaughtered, dried out, shipped out and slept on. None of them seems to mind this and all of them are called Zem.

Man gets eMail from his smart mattress, saying his heart rate was low last night. He checks his smart watch, which confirms, and calls his doctor, saying he also feels a little short of breath.
Doctor says go to emergency room now, they find his heart's half pumping, do emergency pace maker surgery, he's fine now, film at 11.

and the point of watching "autopsies" of $1,000 - $5,000 mattresses isn't to learn, it's to build confidence.
people know that, with DIY, they can adjust the mattress (as coils "break in" or preferences change) and can choose components that last, like latex layers.
the thing that many don't know is that there's no "magic" - like novel engineering or components - in name-brand mattresses. that's where the videos come in 🙂 watch a couple, you'll realize that it's hard to do worse.

I’m start to despair I can get advice from anyone else. I never heard of a bunkie board before. Or a mattress that didn’t recommend a box springs. Yes, I’m that old. And I never thought of a better quality frame with slats. And I didn’t know most bed frames do not come with casters. Oh dear. I am not wanting to go to bed stores and deal with salespeople.
Costco has free delivery and haul away too. Along with a solid return policy. Costco has no staff to advise. I’d have to order online. Frankly a cheap Beautyrest I saw there seemed better than my old bed.

Help—advice needed to get a whole new bed and frame and maybe bunkie board and mattress with coils. My bed now is 13-14 years old and no longer comfortable, dip and too soft due to age and wear.
It was a very heavy-duty foam mattress that was unusual at the time because it had a zipper on 3 sides to allow you to choose the order of foam density in the 3 different layers of foam. The queen mattress consisted of 6 long foam pieces to make it easier to fit the foam back in place. You could even have half the bed more firm and the other half more medium, to accommodate if you slept with a partner. Man, it’s a heavy mattress and the foundation is large, heavy and padded edges. The whole shebang is on a standard metal bed frame adjustable full to queen and casters.
My problems: herniated discs in my back now, I think my bed is too high for me, and I do have a bit of a hard time moving it around to change linens and vacuum. I only have 32” space between bed and my dressers along wall.
Want: I like the idea of a taller bed frame so I can slide storage tubs under a side and bottom of bed. I like the idea of having a mattress less tall than what looks like a popular 14” size. I don’t want a plush, pillow top bed. I am thinking I want a firm bed. When my lower back pain feels worse, I put a thick 3” exercise mat on top of the bed and felt better 3 days then took it off since. When I traveled I like hotels with probably firm or medium firm beds. But I had no idea what those beds were. And I am thinking if I get a firm bed that feels too firm I can get a foam topper.
So here I am considering a tall metal frame 20”, bunkie board, firm mattress. I would not buy a foundation for the mattress because the one I’m looking at says a platform bed or flat support is fine. I was kind of hoping the metal bed frame would allow me to add heavy casters. But product photos don’t really show the bottom of the frame legs to know if I can add casters. Oh, and no headboard with footboard needed. Please comment after you read through my dilemma and concerns. Oh yes, I am so done with foam, never again. Yes, I know most mattresses are now foam and come squished in a box. Ok to boost! Help! I’ve only got 5 days to decide because sale dates. #Bed #Mattress #Sleep #BackPain

What do people think about mattresses?
Innerspring? Foam? Some kinda hybrid?
I'm not doing water again. I don't recall ever sleeping on a foam one.

Your semi regular reminder that miraculous #mattress is a snake oil. If the price tag is over ~€300 then you’re paying for a placebo effect.

Upcycling: Old Mattress to Cat-Bed
Two years ago, i got a new (and better) mattress, my old one was one of those cheaper latex foam mattresses from Ikea. I didn´t want to throw it away, because i thought i still could use it for something, but for a long time, didn´t know for what. Until this summer. I had the idea to make it into a cat bed. After some measuring and a little bit of math, i went for it.
I wanted to use as much as possible, (that´s why the cat bed got a bit huge in the end), even the mattress cover and the handles. I even saved the really long zip, because you never know, when you need something like that. My first plan was to use the mattress cover as, well as cover and then make some kind of patchwork cover/slip on top of that. (After sewing the cover it changed, because those corners weren´t fun at all.
I neede a bottom piece, two side pieces and one back piece. The three pieces are sitting on top of the bottom piece. I tried to cut the foam with a stanley knife ( i don´t know if this term is used in other countries), but couldn´t cut it at all. So i just used an old scissors. It got a bit wonky and crooked, but in the end it was fine.
I cut the bottom piece 70 cm x 100 cm x 14, the two side pieces and the back piece were the same size 70 cm x 15 cm x 14 cm. (The mattress was 200 cm x 140 cm x 14 cm.)
I glued everything together with a very cheap textile glue, and it worked absolutely fine with this kind of foam. It just had to sit and dry for a few days. ( I just applied the glue with a brush.)
As you can see in the background, i could easily make another cat bed. But i only have a few scraps left over from the cover, so i need some other material.
Then i measured all the pieces i needed to cut from the mattress cover. The best tip i can give you, write what piece it is on the wrong side of it (like bottom piece or side piece), plus how much seam allowance you cut on.
Another good tip, draw an “overview” on a sheet of paper, like which piece should be sewn first to another piece and so on. This helps you a lot. What was still quite hard to sew, were the corners, but i managed in the end. That´s why i decided not to sew a patchwork cover.
The end result doesn´t look very professional and perfect, but i´m happy with it and my cat is also very happy with it.
To easily remove the cover for washing, i closed it in the back with some velcro.
Thank you for reading! If you have any questions, don´t hesitate to comment and ask.
Till next time!#Anleitung #catBed #craft #crafts #mattress #sewing #Tutorial #upcycling

Too much tech is a bad thing! That is why my mattress is just a mattress.
"Some smart bed users were quite literally losing sleep over the massive AWS outage on Monday. Eight Sleep’s elevating, temperature-controlling mattress systems were temporarily knocked out of service by Amazon’s server issues, with users on Reddit and X reporting their smart beds were stuck at sweltering temperatures and uncomfortable incline positions."

===#AWS crash causes $2,000 #Smart Beds to overheat and get stuck upright - Dexerto
A major #Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on October 20 had the unexpected side effect of causing chaos in bedrooms across the US, as owners of Eight Sleep’s $2,000+ ‘Pod’ #mattress covers found their smart beds had no offline mode and were stuck at high temperatures and odd positions in the night.

Belated #3GoodThings
- (yet another) new laptop battery arrived and I managed to install it via YouTube, although the cable was rigid and twisted. I was glad that I remembered to order the correct torx 5 screwdriver together with it.
- our new mattresses (and the things for below) came and I had enough energy left to install them as well
- I had a really good sleep on the new #mattress and didn't fall out of bed (they're so much higher than the previous ones) -

A quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt4
Long ago I can remember my grandmother telling me that one should always sleep in all of one’s guests’ beds, to make sure that they are comfortable.
