Just finished watching the brilliant #MatildaTheMusical film with the family.
Apropos nothing in particular, I'm struck by the subtle message that in the face of injustice, disobedience is permitted and may in fact be necessary to effect a change.

Great & refreshingly-diverse casting, lead by the fantastic actress playing Matilda, utterly adorable. 🥰

The new Matilda Movie is weird and surprisingly dark.
I've never seen the original movie so I didn't know what to expect, but it definitely wasn't this. Definitely one of the most unique movies I've seen in a while.
They definitely didn't have a shortage of talented kids. Damn those kids could dance!
As someone who was labeled a "troublemaker" at school, the headmistress was definitely one of the most hateable characters I've ever seen. She got pipes too though.

Fand das als Film damals schon sehr hart, weil ich mit so viel Ungerechtigkeit und Missbrauch nur schwer klarkomme - selbst wenn es eine Geschichte über Widerstand und Verbindungen ist.

We watched #MatildaTheMusical and it's fantastic.
I knew from the opening credits (and had probably heard before and forgotten) that it was written by Tim Minchin, but when you're listening to it there are so many times you just know that it *had* to be Tim Minchin.
Nobody else writes exactly his brand of clever wordplay so perfectly. Every song is like a triple-layered dad joke that makes you clap your hands and cheer and groan. 🥰 -

Look at this dry sorrow excuse for a chocolate cake. The movie cake is so moist and decadent. This musical rendition does not make me want to eat the entire confection. #MatildaTheMusical

Go watch #matildathemusical on Netflix.
There were a few things I liked better in the stage show, which I loved, but they knocked it out of the park with some of the big set pieces. And we’ll be hearing about the star Alisha Weir for a long time.

You know how the villain song of musicals is often quite impressive and awe-inspiring? Well, not at all the case in Matilda the Musical (2022). The villain is just plain evil - well, not "plain" exactly... extraordinarily evil.
This musical (film) is about abuse, abuse, abuse, the effects of abuse, and one little girl standing up against abuse. It is a dark and horrific story.
Also, the lead, #AlishaWeir, is carrying the whole film, which is kinda fitting.
