  1. … with limited success, though: Heinrich's tomb, after a long and changeful history, was empty.

#Matilda's burial, however, remained there inside the #crypt underneath #Quedlinburg's conventual church St Servatius:

  3. Today is the funeral for 10-year-old Matilda, the youngest victim of the Bondi terrorist attack. Her middle name was "Bee" and in memory of her, many people are sharing pictures of bees (I can't find whether her family actually asked for this, but it seems a nice tribute).

As a numismatist, there are a lot of beautiful coins with #bees. I've opted for a simple French 10 Centime "A Consommer" token. While picking that out, I also found a second one with a Star of David, a significant #Jewish symbol.

    Be at peace, Matilda.

Een dag na de aanslag op een Joods festival op Bondi Beach in Australië, is meer bekend over de mensen die werden gedood. Onder de slachtoffers zijn onder meer een meisje van 10 jaar oud, twee rabbijnen en een voormalig politieagent.

  5. @cdb_77 I agree, but if I'm not mistaken:
1️⃣ the pre-2019 content is currently not well covered,
2️⃣ there's no option for manual addition,
3️⃣ it doesn’t allow adding a link resolver
4️⃣ there are no consolidated bibliometric data for the authors.

This said, #Matilda is indeed an alternative to promote. 😉

  7. Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Books I Love that Became Films or TV Shows

Hi everyone! I hope you’re well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you want to join in the challenge, you can find the topics for 2025 here, and if you would like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.

Books I Love that Became Films or TV Shows

A Night to Remember by Walter Lord
A Night to Remember is a book about the fateful night the RMS Titanic sank. Lord interviewed the survivors of the sinking and thoroughly researched the disaster, creating a compelling and, at times, emotional read.

The movie adaptation was simply brilliant. I first watched it when I was home sick from school one day and couldn’t believe a B/W movie could be so captivating (at that age, I thought they were boring).

    Matilda By Roald Dahl
Matilda is a fantastic book about an intelligent girl with telekinetic powers who is treated terribly by her parents. She enjoys school and develops a close bond with her teacher, Miss Honey, who eventually becomes her guardian after her terrible parents move to Spain.

The movie is a brilliant way to pass an hour and a half if you’re at a loss for something to do. Mara Wilson is not quite the Matilda I always imagined when reading the book—but she’s marvellous in the role, and Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are fantastic as her awful parents.

    Dracula by Bram Stoker
Dracula is a classic gothic epistolary novel about a vampire who moves from his home in Transylvania to Whitby, England, where he wreaks havoc among the citizens.

There are many Dracula movies, including Univeral’s 1945 film ‘House of Dracula’, Hammer’s 1958 film ‘Dracula’, and John Badham’s 1979 film, ‘Dracula’. However, my favourite adaptation is Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’.

    Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
Skipping Christmas is about a middle-aged couple who decide to ‘skip Christmas’. They have grown tired of the same old thing year in and year out and plan to go on a cruise, but things don’t go to plan.

The movie adaptation was renamed ‘Christmas with The Kranks’, and it is a staple in my house over the Christmas period. It’s a fun, breezy watch and a great adaptation.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the best children’s books ever written. The mean old Grinch hates all things Christmas until he learns the error of his ways. It’s a fun, festive read, and I have loved reading it to the kids in our family over the years. Now that they’re grown up, I just read it to myself.

The animated adaptation from 1966 is a wonderfully festive piece of entertainment, as is the 2018 3D animated film ‘The Grinch’, but my favourite has to be Ron Howard’s 2000 live-action film ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’

Anyway, that’s me for post 20. I’m looking forward to reading about all the funny things you’ve all googled.

As always, thanks for reading today’s post!

    Until next time,

    George

    ✧ Empress Matilda ✧

Empress Matilda (1102–1167) was the claimant to the English throne during the civil war known as the Anarchy. The daughter of King Henry I, she moved to Germany to marry the future Henry V, Holy Roman Emperor. Her younger brother died in 1120, leaving a succession crisis. On Henry V's death in 1125, her father arranged for her to marry Geoffrey ...

Gage may be best known as the mother-in-law of Oz novelist L. #Frank #Baum,
but more importantly, she was an activist, who would be considered as radical in our day as she was in hers.
