  1. The TI-34 is a fairly basic scientific #calculator. I’m a big fan because it’s easy to use and not overwhelming.

I was reading the manual and discovered it has two functions:

    ipart(x)
    fpart(x)

These return the integer and fraction parts of x.

    ipart(2.34)=2
    fpart(2.34)=.34

Great! So, uh.. What are these typically used for? Why include them on such a *basic* calculator? #calculators #ticalc #ti34 #matheducation #mathchat

  3. To The Erudite In Mathematics Who Wish To Remove Infinity (∞)

An axiom of which we are all conscious: the acknowledgement of the unknown.

The symbol of Infinity is the mathematical constant that, through its own logic and reason, grants us the ability to formulate useful formulae. It demarcates a value that is unknown, yet undeniably present.

  4. Someone has pointed out, quite rightly, that I really should tag @standupmaths when I mention a video that he has made.

I'm not sure appearing in a video counts as a connection for an Erdős number, much as people might hope it might.

So ... the monostable (or self-righting) tetrahedron:

    And I'm in it !!

Don't let that put you off ... the rest of it is pretty good.

    What hashtags should I use?

  10. Why do people who are clearly quantitative thinkers and competent at computing become so apologetic and dismissive about the #math abilities? Maybe it time we seriously rethink the damage done in mathematics #education. #mathchat #maths
