  2. @aeble Vielen Dank.

  8. Kann man in Mastodon eigentlich in seiner eigenen Timeline suchen?

I jo pensant, "bé, em passa".

  10. #Maston needs a "surpress link preview if that contains a #GenAI image" (it's always for no other reason than to grab attention and take up space).

Please also don't boost such crap.

Don't link to them in the first place.

    First of all, wellcome 😀

I switch close to a year ago. At the beginning I missed people I followed
(fedifinder.glitch.me/ helps you to find others who moved). Through the distributed nature it's harder to find people by name or handle.

I used bird.makeup for some of them
(@[email protected] creates a virtual #mastodon account which mirrors their tweets).

I struggled with the search, as you couldn't search the content of posts.
But while the bird search got worse (I went back a few times to find out stuff, unsuccessfully) the search here improved.
There now is a full text search (every account can configure if they like to be searchable or not (and the instance needs to support it)).
Through the distributed nature you will not search all of the #fediverse (not sure if you stumbled upon this name before. If not I'll add an explanation 😀).

I have more meaningful and "successful" interaction (e.g. found a kids book I read 40 years ago by a very vague description 😅)

Summing it up, I feel at home here 😄

P.s.: #Maston is not all of the #fedivers and after some time I tried out @bookwyrm which is an #ActivePub server with the focus on books and tracking reading. While it's not a mastodon instance you can still follow and interact with people there (e.g @[email protected] )
Translated to commercial social networks it would be like you could follow and respond to people on Instagram or Facebook from within the birdside.

  17. Verbindung von #ActivityPub (#Maston/#Fediverse/...) <-> #ATProtocol (#Bluesky)

    (1/7)

  18. There's been some significant progress in connecting #BlueSky's #ATProtocol and #Maston's #ActivityPub. We're may actually be able to take some control back from the big walled gardens.

  19. @deutrino @hj @lanodan @Moon I follow several lemmy communities from #Friendica, and threading works fine, looks no different than this long hell thread save the first post always has a TITLE and is clearly a "re-toot" of the OP.

#Maston's handling where each post/comment looks like a single re-toot makes it nearly impossible to follow, especially with the added traffic with the #RedditMigration. I had to stop following @memes from my masto account because reasons.

  20. People who can't handle people should not have power at social media sites/apps.

Whether that is owning #Maston servers, being crazy admins at #Tildes, admins at #Reddit, or moderators on Reddit.

Get people with people skills to make the higher level decisions!

  21. @jonn

I actually found communities to be very weird there. There are many communities on #Matrix for specific apps and services like #Linux and specific one for things like #Ubuntu, but you just don't get responses, but then when one of the popular guys post everyone respond.

So, I find myself lurking more and not interacting as much. #Maston was a lot more inviting and felt at home immediately in all of the existing communities.

Maybe just my experience. That's why I mostly use it for individual one-on-one conversations.

  22. @laimis

The #meme community still needs to grow on #Mastodon. I personally haven't seen too many memes, but it might just be the people I am following. They might start to surfiace in the replies

  23. To Whoever on #Maston needs to hear this:

Don't ask "What if you fail?"

    Ask "What if you succeed?"

What happens if you don't fail?

    #Thoughts #ThursdayThought #Success #YouGotThis

  24. Man, @[email protected]’s “free speech” farce and general nutjobbery just escalates. #Maston’s acct @[email protected] just got banned. #joinmastodon

  26. So I took @kaukamieli advice and I got a Gif keyboard. Looks like I’ll be using #maston more on my iPhone now.

  27. What could our #foodstudies group on #Maston be? What affordances would the #fedeverse allow that other social media don’t? Has it the potential to be something different? Too meta of a question? 🤷🏻‍♂️ #foodmedia #foodsocialmedia @foodstudies
