Well this was weird, but I think I fixed it. When I manually updated OpenSSL to the latest version, somehow the ssl/certs directory was empty, so all the openssl calls failed. When I copied across all the files from the previous ssl/certs directory, things started working again.

As evidence of this working, here is my cat helping me fix this problem 😹

Mastodon Rocks!

WIth the latest update/upgrade from Mastodon clicking a hashtag now gives two options.

1. Browse posts in this hashtag(generally)
2. Browse posts only by the user...(user who posted?)

biggest #MastodonUpgrade coming to #search is one that takes aim directly at Xitter & competitors: at last, the ability to search for posts. Before, Mastodon content search relied on hashtags.

You can also now use #searchoperators to narrow down your search results, such as only retrieving posts that have an embedded link or a poll, or limiting results to those from a specific user, or posts that were published between specific dates."

love @IceCubesApp, but definitely agree. It becomes cumbersome to always type out the #Hashtags, with capitals instead of accepting lowercase suggestions.

As there is much push for ALT text, as much value is in #CamelCaps (as I know them), because they are read the correct way by #ScreenReaders…

(and this post demonstrates, how I like to utilize hashtags… ;-)

Got a notification from some mastodon bot account about needing to upgrade.

Gave it a shot but the result was server down for 3 days and when it finally came back up, same version.

if you're upgrading a fairly standard native install of #mastodon from 3.5.3 to 4, you will more than likely run into the same issues as i did. this is on a vanilla #debian machine. my upgrade steps that will hopefully save you a headache #mastodonupgrade #mastodon3.5.3 #mastodon4 (1 of 3):

Just got the upgrade to 4.0.2 done. I must conclude that Docker is the best way when you don't understand the software stack it is build on. I fired off way too many commands I had no idea about what did?!

If your #Mastodon instance provider upgraded their software this week, you should be able to follow #hashtags. They will show up in your home timeline. Search or click a hashtag and to the right, there is a follow button.

In this example, I followed #Farming #MastodonUpgrade #FollowHashtags

upgraded my instance to Mastodon 4.0.2. It sort of works (I'm writing this from mastodon.el in Emacs) but the web app is broken ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #MastodonUpgrade

Why am I seeing so many "Filtered" posts today? Is it related to Mastodon updating - there are no filters listed on my account.
