There appears to be a bug in the user icons displayed in the web version of mastodon v4.3.1 on the notifications page. The same user icon can show up multiple times.
This has happened on many of my posts for the past few days.

If you are connected to firewalled wifi and attempt to post in the Mastodon app you *do not* get an error. Your post is eaten. Deleted forever.
I wrote this amazing post and it’s gone. This has happened before. Other apps say “cannot post” when firewalled. Seems like bug.
(please don’t tell me to use a different app I have four apps each with their own issues- the purpose of this post is to check if it’s fair to call it a bug)

The original founding team behind the project (Mastodon gGmbH) runs mastodon.social and mastodon.onlineRules of thumb I have for looking and evaluating any instance (server) are the following
a) their About page that should have their mission statement and purpose of the server;
b) Rules of the server. If they don't have any I strike it out inmediately
c) and moderation team and form of contact
d) sources of founding.
