Dear #mastodon power-users: Is there a way in the "advanced web interface" to hide those "hide" and "alt" buttons? Or just to move them *away* from the image? I find it a really poor design choice this already tiny image content by active buttons.

In the last two weeks, I've read two different people expressing a general complaint about normal use of hashtags, and I just don't get it. Can someone explain this viewpoint to me?

To be clear, I am not talking about someone who quietly chooses not to use hashtags in their own toots.

Also, I am not talking about hashtag spamming, the deliberate use of off-topic tags.

Hmm just realized I don't see toots from some of the people I follow in my feed. They are on other instances. I thought #mastodon was supposed to pull their toots for me after I follow them? Is this not how it works? If I open up their profile I see their toots that they made after I subscribed to them. #issue #mastodonquestion

Is it just me or did the number of interactions on Mastodon go down?

Since two or three weeks I get much less interaction with posts, there is a huge chance that my posts are just boring but before that the interaction was noticeable higher.

How do you perceive that?

I noticed a while ago that it appears my Mastodon instance defederated Threads.

Which fine.

But today, I noticed that it looks like that resulted in my account silently unfollowing everyone on threads. Is that how the Mastodon software works? So even if I move to another instance, the list of people I once followed is lost forever?

Why am I seeing, in my normal timeline, posts from a bridged bluesky account that I am not following?
And also when I try to mute it (just mute, not block) it says that this will block all of the bridge domain (bsky.brid.gy) and remove my followers from that domain, when I just want to mute the 1 account 🤔
Oh and also the posts are shown as being 8y old🤔🤔

if I notice users from an instance are not taggable does that mean the instance is blocked or deindexed or what?

This is not a big deal since depending on how you count I am on four instances but... I'm curious

EDIT: I am not an admin but maybe there is a tag like #fediadmin where this could get some attention?

When someone boosts an interesting post, I want to be able to thank them. I can easily interact with the boosted post, but I can't favorite the boosting action itself. I could send the person who boosted a direct message but I worry it would be out of context. How do you let people know that you appreciate their boosts?

When I boost it feels like it is going into a void. It would be nice to know if my boosting was helpful.

I'm tempted to "quote post" (link) to noteworthy posts and add my own hashtags to them to try to draw attention to quality posts.

What do you think? Is this a good idea?

A lot of accounts don't add hashtags to their public posts when they are clearly sharing it. Or would this potentially be too intrusive? 🤔
