I really need to get off my lazy ass and write an acceptable upload policy with more robust content warning guidelines, but I'm not exactly sure how or where to post an AUP page on Mastodon. :blobfoxmeltsob:​ I don't want it to dominate the (already admittedly too long) About page.

Hello all!

We're currently trying to move this account to @technically_good (so do not be alarmed if you received a follow from there.)

The only thing is: Setting up the alias at the new account isn't going through at all, presumably due to the high latencies. Importing our follow list & auto-following anyone at #mstdnca fails as well, presumably for the same reason. 😔

Still trying to decide which instance we're going to go with. Setup has been quite the journey so far - hopefully the dust settles soon! 💜

oh ok so *here's* a neat feature of #Mastodon lists that I had hitherto been unaware of:

You can set them to include replies from list members to:
- No one
- Members of the List
- Any followed user

This is REALLY COOL. The 🤯 option for me personally is to be able to include only replies that members of the list sent to other members of the list. Great for "Local" lists, or lists for a busy topic bubble!

You can also change this setting later!

If you quote a toot within a private mention post, the person quoted can see the post, the same as if you mentioned their @.

And when I write it out that way, it is consistent with how Masto quote-boosts work (the quoted account is notified, like mentions) and with how Masto private posts work (anyone mentioned sees it). But… FYI. 🙊

Setting notifications to mute with a timer is one of my favourite gifts to myself.

Sometimes I don't want to unfollow or block someone, but I don't want my TL full of whatever they're posting about at the moment. Temporary Notification Muting is an elegant solution.

For me, this is self care and it's one of my fave features on Mastodon.

Is there an easy/elegant way to fix this?

*I'm not worried, I think it's funny on my end, I just don't want to slight or confuse people, and so from that perspective would like to get it fixed asap.

We learned today via @FediTips that all of the Guppe groups are offline indefinitely. (More information at the link.) Our fingers are crossed for positive developments.

This means that at least for the moment the education community will no longer be able to reach subscribers in related groups.

A follow announced they’ll block/unfollow anyone who boosts media without alt text. I’m careful about that in my own posts, but it’s easy to forget when boosting. I wish my client alerted me like it does when I post: “No alt text! Sure you want to boost this?”

What are the requirements for uploading audio files in Mastodon (glitch-soc)?

The Mastodon docs say:

Audio (MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A, 3GP) up to 99MB. Audio will be transcoded to MP3 using V2 VBR (roughly 192kbps).

But when I try to upload a .m4a file I get an error about a video file (Error 422: Video has no video stream).

Mastodon feature request: boost with added content warning.

There's a lot of good toots that I cannot boost because I believe they require a CW, and I refuse to be That Guy who goes around yelling at people about how they write their toots like some sort of Mastodon Police.

I complained about BlueSky a little so I'm gonna balance it out by saying that Mastodon's federation options suck and we need a way to boot remote servers off of our federated timeline and hashtag lookup without outright silencing every single person on that server. :neodog__w_:​

I like responding to people's Fedi posts so they feel like others are engaging since Fedi is definitely a lot smaller than, like, Twitter. I don't want them to think it's a ghost town here. Sometimes I wonder if I'm annoying though. :corgi_wtf1:​

Es gibt zwei Dinge im Mastodon-UI, die mich stören.
1. Seite dem Update auf 4.3 ist bei Bildern das unauffällige Auge zum Ein-/Aublenden durch einen Text "Ausblenden" getauscht worden, der auch noch schwarz mit weißer Schrift ist.
2. Bei Bildern mit Alt-Text steht unten immer noch (ebenfalls weiß auf schwarz) "ALT". Stattdessen sollte da nichts stehen und bei Bildern *ohne* Alt-Text "Dieses Bild enthält keinen Alternativtext."

Vielleicht noch weil es vielen nicht klar zu sein scheint: Es gibt jede Menge Leute wie mich hier draußen die nicht "mobile first" sondern "mobile only" Lösungen suchen. Ich weiß nicht wann ich zuletzt meinen Laptop aufgeklappt habe. Ich brauche keine Browser Extensions. Ich verbringe weder in meinem Job noch in meiner Freizeit besonders viel Zeit sitzend. Nein ich möchte kein Linux installieren.
