Why is that when I search for an account on an instance, it shows up but when I search for the same account on another instance, it doesn't show up? This has happened to me far too many times at this point. And I used to think it only happens on #infosec.exchange (this was the only instance I have ever used till today's afternoon). But I checked out other instances today and it happens on others too including #sakurajimamoe 🥲 And this doesn't only happen with accounts but also with posts. On some instances, for some accounts, it doesn't show any activity or posts of the account at all even while the profile shows when searched. And sometimes, it shows some posts and doesn't show some. Can anyone enlighten me about this 🙏🙏

In the middle of all these funs and games and death and destruction, I still haven't found a new instance for my Mastodon account (not this account, the other one).

Ideally, I'd like it to:

- Be not too big, not too small. (I'd say around a few hundred active users)

- Be around for a while to make sure it'll stay around for a while longer.

- With a server possibly not in the US. (EU being the ideal choice, other places are fine too)

- NOT block or limit Threads and the big Mastodon accounts because that sectarianism is ridiculous and goes against what the Fediverse is about.

- have @David available because I'm vain this way.
However, what do you think of an @ that's just initials? weird or not? I'm not really comfortable putting out my full name on a social media handle (even though it's easy to find) for some reason and DavidB is for this current account.

- a name that's not weird for the content I usually put on the account: anecdotes and blog posts from my life in Japan, posts about the climate crisis, my friendish with the neighborhood's crows, posts and pictures about my corner of the world (rural and coastal Japan), those things mostly.


Some instances on my shortlist, but none check all the boxes above:

We have #SmartRich and #StupidRich.

If they tried to buy many #MastodonInstances I'd call that Stupid Rich, almost like someone inherited a lot of money or won money and then decides to do stupid stuff.

I think #Meta is the kinda of #SmartRich who make smart choices when it comes to #CommonSense and they care about their image, at least the part which they can do something about(like not making a fool of themselves).

Inviting admins to an "Instagram Party" isn't stupid...
