After nearly two years of actively participating in the fediverse, I figured I'd put together my own guide for Mastodon, the platform I'm the most familiar with as a user.
Hvordan muter man hashtags på Mastodon?
In case anyone's wondering, this is the original (almost 40 min) video that's a much more comprehensive "Artist Guide To Mastodon".
Which already feels out of date in places! I'll need to do an update at some point :minette:

Here's a really brilliant guide from @AimeeMaroux aimed at creators for getting comfortable on Mastodon. Even if you've been around a while, there's a lot worth reading here. It's especially helpful for folks who are looking to find their people in the #NSFW world.

@crabber It's all in what you're searching for... Do a #hashtag search for your interests and then add that search to your feed and you'll start seeing what interests you. I couldn't care less about Musk or Twitter, but I am interested in Reddit, which is how your comment ended up in my #toot_stream.

@Vivaldi Very good video!👏
A language that #Vivaldians :tony_happy: and even by people who have never heard of us or Mastodon can understand. It's a very good #MastodonGuide @ruario @AriGreve, it covers almost you can know about Mastodon :mastodon: .
For some good #VivaldiFeature will release, it's a very good format.
Staying late at work🌜 was worth it. But next time your coworkers should invite you to coffee☕, but not for working late, for recognize the value of good effort💪.
@jeff I was thinking of posting something similar. Maybe we can collaborate and pull some more people in to help #MastodonGuide
@voron
I don't know anything but FWIW: The android app Fedilab provides a translate icon on the toot menu for toots using a language other than your preferred. I think you have to purchase Fedilab.
You can also get a free Chrome extension called Google Translate, probably works on the Microsoft browser as well. When you activate the extension other languages will have a translate icon next to the mouse when selected. I think it works anywhere,
Google Translate also comes as a windows utility. You can translate text, handwriting, photos, and speech in over 100 languages with the Google Translate app.
Good Luck!

I got my mastodon guide done this weekend! :)
I have been on here a month now and I didn't want to see people walking away without giving it a chance. It's made a world of difference in my own social networking engagement. So much happier! Also included some tips I've learned from everyone over the last month!
Those of you who joined Mastodon in the last couple weeks what was the most confusing for you? I'm doing a workshop/live stream (posted that video this week) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI4Dg1OnNnw on Saturday as a guide to those who are starting now and would love to know what almost made you give up.. what helped you and kept you here Please boost for max poll - also what would you emphasize for new users? #mastodonhelp #mastodontips #mastodonguide #poll #twittermigration
Where is a good site that is a good #guide for #Mastodon? Laid out in simple terms that even I can understand! #mastodonguide
I recommend this guide to Mastodon, written by @noelle
Informative and answers questions which newcomers like me wouldn't figure on their own.
Now that more people are hanging on Mastodon, I'm starting to get a lot of the tricks to using it:
- Digging for and publishing hashtags: this is similar to Instagram (where people put tons of hashtags) but without the algorithms
- Following hashtags: a low-notifications way to be on top of a topic
- Finding new instances and who they attract: it's like finding colonies that formed their own culture
Fascinating!
Wow ... This is the most comprehensive guide to #mastodon, i have ever seen.
Highly recommend! 👍

After reading and researching a lot of things before, i still found a lot of stuff, i learned from it.
@SpockResists Yes, I like the improved functionality of Mastodon compared to the bird site in audience customization, editing, graphics, and translation. Also, I'm not getting a lot of intrusive RW/AltRight posts and topics inserted into my timeline against my preferences like what's happening there. This user guide site helped me familiarize myself with all the Mastodon functions. (Link's to the Network topic, but the menu covers everything.)

Minor updates to my Guide to Mastodon:
- Add mention of following hashtags.
- Add mention of debirdify.
- Revert suggestion to use beta.birdsite.live or its derivatives. They don't offer either opt-in or opt-out, and are widely blocked for that very good reason.

Danke!
Ausbruch aus dem Vogelkäfig - Ein #mastodonguide
>> Don’t hate the media – become the media! <<
