Good thread. Mastodon has a marketing problem. Nobody is out beating the drum on behalf of the network and that is both good and bad news.

I am quite happy with the 600 I follow. Also, I am NOT complaining about the new people that have come after me or those that might come in the future.

This issue is not about being overwhelmed, but about the inevitable structural changes that happen with growth.

Sure, I have been here only 5 weeks, but my instance has undergone 160% growth since then, because it is great place. #Mastodon in general has had only 30% growth. I am on an outlier #instance.

23) Broader picture of the whole Mastodon network shows some deceleration. New daily additions have dropped from 100k to 83k. Still, that's close to the population of #Galway which is nothing to sneeze at 😜

Difficult to know why the slowdown. Could be a lot of servers struggling to keep up with capacity and need to throttle down admissions until they can upgrade which usually involves additional expense
