Newsmast is new to Mastodon and #mastodoneconomics. We’re a knowledge-based platform pooling facts, data and ideas. Built on Mastodon’s open-source technology, bringing together academics, journalists, charity workers and people who know their stuff from across the fediverse.
Newsmast is made up of curated communities of interest, where we seek out and follow experts to lead the conversation; together with diverse voices, marginalized communities and people on the ground.

Ah, but I hear you say. Premium paid for is the way to go.

But what about Mastodon? It does not have ads?
Mastondon is about 1% the size of Twitter across all instances. It simply will not scale to that size in my opinion as a paid for service even if thousands of instances are added.

This by @aral, who has over 23,000 followers, is fascinating (and concerning) in equal measure.
Popular #Mastodon users will rack up server costs. And the biggest servers will be incentivised to get bigger - they have economies of scale - or die.
In my opinion, they will probably be incentivised to adopt advertising.
