  1. Is there anyone out there willing to accept payment for building a new feature in Mastodon?

In particular I want to enable server-side filtering of boosts where the boosted post is already available in the timeline (whether it has been viewed or not). From what I can guess, the feature just needs to check to see if the poster of the boosted post is being followed by the user and if so, suppress the boost.

If you're interested in creating a patch for this and preparing it for submission upstream (I'd handle pushing it forward but would apply it on my own server in the meantime), please get in touch.

  9. Why Mastodon uses a Markdown library which isn't CommonMark compliant? github.com/vmg/redcarpet/issue I just had to use HTML on my last two toots because of that.

  11. Finally had a chance to read the latest Trunk & Tidbits Mastodon development blog post, and while seeing all the work that's been done on quote posts and starter packs getting a mention is exciting, this upcoming update is really nice:

"Added the ability to block specific usernames from registering. This handles homoglyphs, partial matches, and either require approval, or deny registration entirely."

  15. What do you think about emoji reactions on social media? I know some Fediverse clients support them. Mastodon has emoji reactions in announcements, which makes me wonder - would it really be a bad thing to have them in statuses as well? 🤔

A closed ticket on the topic, as not planned: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i
    A closed PR: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p

  19. Trying to start every reply on a new line BELOW the addressees, where it belongs, is a PITA! Even though the cursor appears to begin at the end of the last addressee, that's a lie! Pressing [Enter] first thing will OVERWRITE the last addressee. It's necessary to remember to press [End] first.

I wish this would get fixed.

  23. Anyone have guidance for "Australian Online Safety Industry Codes (Class 1A and Class 1B)"?

I am not a lawyer, but I'm curious about the ramifications for indie web social media.

Any lawyers want to give some free input to free platforms?

  37. TIL if you create an application that has users authenticate to their #Mastodon instance, you must have an app registered on that instance as well. Logical, but means that your app needs to keep a store of all those secrets and keys somewhere as they get created for each instance.

Interesting that the mastodon api endpoint is public to create apps…but see the reason for it now. #mastodondevelopment

  40. Awesome idea for #MastodonDevelopment : enable screening out specific hashtags from people you follow, so, for example, otherwise interesting people who post about #sports on the weekend can be stifled.

  43. also, on the last topic. I don't think 404 is the right response to a request to add someone to a list that you don't follow yet. Surely that should be a 401 or 403. #MastodonDevelopment
