I wish I could filter the "Home" screen more flexibly without using lists.

For example:

- Only Accounts (Rather than Accounts + Hashtags)
- Only Accounts / Hashtags I've tagged with (art, games, programming, photography, etc.)
- Exclude Accounts / Hashtags I've tagged with (political, big feels, activism)

This would let me curate my home feed on-the-fly rather than a stream of things that are across my varied interests; as well as let me dip in (and out) of things I don't find healthy in the moments where they don't feel good to me rather than have to unfollow temporarily.

Lists don't really "Do it" for me (I try but it feels so awkward)

Hm, an interesting update in the upcoming 4.3 version of Mastodon is that the site now defaults to automatic dark/light theme. This is a good thing, for sure!

But I just saw my profile page while logged out and I am really not used to seeing the light theme.

The "invisible walls" of Mastodon mean that # search isn't always going to tell you what's out there. If you think, "Surely people from this major city are on the Fedi/Masto?" Then YES. They ARE! But no one on your server has found them yet.

I have to question why Content Warnings are being treated such that using them is bad for your reach.

This VERY OBVIOUSLY discourages the use of CW for important topics, which is the exact opposite of what one wants.

So: Apple sets up a server, invites existing non-masto customer base. 99% are nice geeks. 1% are paid shills. Hard to defed people just being enthusiastic.

Ex Twitter users refuse to use self-defence tools. Calamity.

I think that people agree levels of small creator ads. No one wants to be muted or disliked.

I'm quite narked.

That little unlock sign? That's no bloody use to anyone.

It means that only your followers and random people who click through on a post can see it.

It _, should_ just mean that it only goes to your local timeline. That would be good. Like if I wanted to make a joke in Irish or something and not have random people be confused by it.

Vigilance is needed. I am skeptical that open source will lose out in terms of QoL to a corporate newcomer _that isn't already dominant in the field_.

If Meta goes that route, they'll target large institutions with their app which have ready userbases and a (perceived) lack of in-house know-how.

So the key weaknesses are:
Single developer pace of app
Lack of reach to organisations

Hmm... what's the actual mechanics of a zerg rush by meta?

Make a tonne of "free" servers with professional mods supported by ads and a slick user interface, call it "Tooter".

Buy up all free Web hosting to drive up costs?

Legal lobbying to make Mastodon or running a non corporate server illegal?

They'd need sufficient servers, sufficiently well moderated to not cause instant defederation.
