Let’s start the new cinematic year with Trancers. I was expecting a lousy rip-off of everything popular in the mid-80s, but I got a genuinely entertaining time travel detective zombie B-movie with a charismatic lead, good humor, lovely effects, and filmmakers who knew where to spend the budget effectively. Also, the name of the protagonist, Jack Deth, was mentioned in every scene. The action is a little tame and could have been bloodier.

I watched Bring Her to Me for the Mastodon Bad Movie Club, and if the only bad movie is a boring movie, then this isn’t bad at all. I didn’t know there was such a niche. It’s only an hour long and has four actors and locations. They definitely know how to work with their budget.

I watched ‘WAITRESS!’ for the #MBMC and I think it’s less a movie and more of a series of set pieces that set up dumb jokes, one-liners and visual gags. Like bad SNL with ADD. The main plot centers around a restaurant and the waitresses that work there, but it’s all over the place. One waitress is a spoiled rich kid, one’s an aspiring actress, blah blah blah. There isn’t really anything new or even funny about this movie, which made it (yawn) boring as fuck. I always say the only BAD movie is a boring movie and that’s exactly what this was. 🤮

I watched ‘TALES FROM THE CRAPPER’ for the #MBMC and while the main story of this portmanteau film was chock full of awesome cameos from everyone from James Gunn, to Eli Roth to Ron Jeremy and the South Park guys, I’ll just say that some stories were better than others. The first story had a homeless guy murdered by his own dismembered ejaculating erection and it all went downhill from there. One very funny aspect of this film was ‘Boner-Vision’ which would flash boobs on the screen if the story goes too long without them. I guess to keep you hard if you’re masturbating, or whatever. Yeah, real high brow stuff here. 😅

I watched ‘THEY CALL ME MACHO WOMAN!’ for the #MBMC and I’d say the majority of this movie is her running through the forest being chased by assholes. She has a couple of cool moments, one where she jams a branch into a guy’s ear, but she mostly just the damsel in distress with no one to save her for most of the film. Lucky for her, she’s up against the dumbest criminals in a movie. They try to rape her, she kills them and runs away, then more come and find the body that was clearly trying to rape her and what do they do? If one of them finds her, they try to rape her again. She swings wildly back and forth from totally helpless to a badass and that lack of consistency provides the most laughs. By the end of the movie, she's fuckin' RAMBO. Overall, it’s just one of those movies that is mostly stupid with a few good moments.

You know me!! This is just a new instance, so I figured I need a new #introduction.
I'm Jack and I love movies. I love good movies and I love BAD movies. This is why I started the #MastodonBadMovieClub (or #MBMC), to celebrate the best of the WORST. Currently, I'm trying to get through all the #TROMA movies. 🤮
I also follow a lot of casting and movie news and I'm pretty knowledgeable about the film-making industry (I got family in the biz).
I try to keep it positive because life is too short to bitch and moan about stuff you don't like. Nobody wants to hear it anyway. I give short reviews sometimes, but if I thought a movie was boring, I just won't post about it here.

I just managed to watch #SurfNazisMustDie before the end of the month, which wasn’t actually on my schedule, but entering @jacklaridian‘s #MastodonBadMovieClub was too appealing. Random thoughts on #MacAndMe:
Is the unnaturally bendy Alien dad played by the Tar Man actor from or the Xenomorph actor? (this is a "children's" movie).The swearing-in scene where everyone is kissing the aliens (on an open eye!) made me think back to CPR training and the taste of slobbered-on dummies wiped down with bleach. #MastodonBadMovieClub

Mac And Me: Feels like ChatGPT was prompted to create an 80s family movie and send it back in time (with help from an Alan Sylvestri--of Back to the Future--score).

At Long Last Love (1975):
Burt Reynolds, Sybil Shepherd, Madeline Khan, and Duilio Del Petre star in a brand-new original musical using Cole Porter songs to tell the story of two couple who swap partners to make the other jealous. All the actors use their own voices to sing the tunes. It’s a beautiful disaster of a musical.

I watched this #badmovie last week and just…wow.
“Gramps” is the writer/director who goes back to college to prove to the science department that they are all wrong and god is real. Featuring my favorite anti science line of all time “If Natural Selection is real, how much does it weigh?”
It’s awful and unbelievably stupid but I had the absolute best time watching it. A girl dies from alcohol poisoning and is brought back through prayer.
