The decision comes after #VeteransAffairs Secy Douglas A. Collins, under political pressure from #Congress, backed away from a plan to slash 15% of the agency’s workforce through #MassFirings. Instead, the #VA lost almost 30k employees this year from buyout offers & attrition.
The agency hopes that the cuts will reduce the #healthcare workforce to as little as 372k employees, a 10% reduction from last year, acc/to a memo shared with regional leaders last month…. -

The dept had ~4,100 employees when #Trump took office in January, but its workforce was nearly halved amid #MassFirings in the admin’s first months. At the start of the shutdown, it had ~2,500 employees.
