  1. @whn
I'm wearing my mask, the contractor is wearing theirs, and 2 air purifiers are running (different rooms) while some repairs are being done inside our house.

I know nothing is 100% safe but that doesn't mean taking precautions is useless!

  2. Wieder einmal neue Masken bestellt. Gibt anscheinend nichts Neues, also wieder die gleichen.

Wir brauchen aber bald ein neues Modell für das jüngere Kind. Das wird dann seit 2020 die vierte Größe sein, und es fehlt dann noch mindestens eine auf "Erwachsen". :masto_silly:

  3. Adults who reported having COVID-19 at least twice were significantly more likely to be diagnosed as having a new medical condition than those who reported never having been infected, according to a study published this week in Canada Communicable Disease Report.

It’s well known that preexisting conditions can increase the risk of severe COVID. The new research suggests that the relationship between COVID and chronic illness may run in both directions.

  4. All good things come to an end and so has our matching fundraising campaign. Thank you so much to all who donated. 🙏💙

We raised more than $2300! 🎉 We’ll use that money to send masks across Canada on request. 🚚 📦 😷

  5. In less fun news, my husband and I tested positive for covid. It's only the second time for me, but I've been vaccinated (as has Mike), so I'm hopeful this round will be easier. And so far, our even more freshly vaxxed son is testing negative. I hope he does fight it off. #CovidIsNotOver #CovidVaccine #MaskUp

Edit: Boosts welcome. Covid is not over, y'all!

  6. The right remembers the initial collective societal efforts to control the spread of Covid as so horrible that they must never ever be repeated.

Because 2020 was way too much like a rehearsal for a General Strike.

If you want to move society to the left, you can help make it happen today if you #maskup .

  7. I really appreciate that she didn't mince words:

Oracles speak uncomfortable truths and prophecies and living at the margins gives you a certain perspective on the centered normates who do not want their comfortable bubble threatened like the selfish piece of shit David Sedaris who is such a beloved writer

    And her interviewer gets it:

I think another way you can put it is that right now we are all engaged in a struggle to normalize masking. Right now, masking, much like the identity of disabled person, chronically ill person, immunocompromised person, is seen as a negative, a deviation from the expected or desired outcome, and as such “normalcy” becomes a tool of devaluation and dehumanization—as well as a tool of social control.

    Alice again:

Community care is giving a shit for others ... you are not alone but ableism, like white supremacy, is designed to pit us against each other to fight for the crumbs

  8. RE: neopaquita.es/@camaradademian/

Alice Wong can't give interviews any more so please excuse the substack link.

in the January 24th issue of The New Yorker by David Sedaris who wrote, “One of Dawn’s lungs collapsed when she was in her late fifties, so she was super cautious about covid—kept her face covered long after everyone else had returned to normal. We were in Chicago together, at O’Hare, in the spring of 2022, when I told her she needed to take it off. “But—” she said. “Let it go,” I told her. “Everyone else has.” I felt like a director coercing an actress to unhook her bra for a sex scene. “Come on,” I said…She took off her mask, and then of course immediately got covid—a bad case, too. All my fault, but she’s never held it against me.” End quote.

If you're masking, or want to start masking, take heart from these words. Your healthy, wealthy friends are not good risk evaluators, they're following the herd, and your well-being is less important to them than their feeling that you're abiding by cultural norms to not mask:

David Sedaris is one of millions of people who want to travel, go to parties, and forget that high risk people like his friend Dawn exist and would rather her suffer from a COVID infection rather than look at her with a mask. With friends like these, you don’t need enemies

  9. @camaradademian

It is bourgeois to think that people can allow themselves to be sick.

Absolutely, since as Alice Wong said in that article:

A simple, low-tech, cost effective intervention that can reduce the transmission of not just COVID but other airborne pathogens should be standard of practice in all healthcare settings which is aligned with the purpose of health care, to actually, you know, save lives and help people.

I try not to boost substack links but Alice Wong can't give new interviews. :sad_dog:
