Koncern General Motors potwierdził, że idzie na pełną konfrontację z gigantami technologicznymi.

Po kontrowersyjnej decyzji z 2023 roku o usunięciu Apple CarPlay ze swoich przyszłych pojazdów elektrycznych, firma ogłosiła, że systemy projekcji smartfona znikną także ze wszystkich nadchodzących modeli spalinowych marek Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick i GMC.

Informację tę potwierdziła w wywiadzie dla serwisu The Verge sama prezes GM, Mary Barra. Zapytana wprost, czy klienci powinni oczekiwać braku wsparcia dla CarPlay i Android Auto w nowych samochodach spalinowych, odpowiedziała: „Myślę, że to właściwe oczekiwanie. Tak”. Wyjaśniła, że firma chce zachować spójność oprogramowania w całym swoim portfolio i stopniowo będzie wdrażać własny system we wszystkich nowych i gruntownie odświeżanych modelach.

Jeszcze dalej w uzasadnieniu posunął się dyrektor ds. produktu GM, Sterling Anderson. W rozmowie przyrównał tę decyzję do usunięcia przez Steve’a Jobsa napędu dyskietek z iMaca. „Szczerze mówiąc, to bardzo »Jobsowskie« podejście. Nikomu nie podobało się usunięcie stacji dyskietek, wszyscy narzekali, ale on powiedział: »Słuchajcie, pamięć flash to przyszłość. Wsiadajcie na pokład«” – stwierdził Anderson. Dodał, że autorski system GM oferuje „znacznie bardziej wciągające środowisko” i „może robić o wiele więcej” niż CarPlay.

Przypomnijmy, że General Motors rozpoczął proces odchodzenia od systemów Apple i Google w 2023 roku, zapowiadając, że jego nowe auta elektryczne będą bazować wyłącznie na autorskim systemie (wcześniej zwanym „Ultifi”). Tłumaczono to wówczas potrzebą głębszej integracji z danymi pojazdu, np. zarządzaniem energią i ładowaniem, do czego CarPlay rzekomo nie dawał dostępu.

Decyzja o rozszerzeniu tej strategii na całą gamę, w tym auta spalinowe, pokazuje, że nie chodziło tylko o specyfikę EV. GM stawia wszystko na jedną kartę – scentralizowany system operacyjny, który ma zadebiutować w 2028 roku w modelu Cadillac Escalade IQ. Jest to ryzykowna strategia, która może albo wyznaczyć nowy trend w branży, albo spektakularnie zniechęcić klientów przyzwyczajonych do wygody, jaką dają systemy Apple i Google.
