1. Rousseau & Romanticism — the emotional and moral root system
Rousseau and the early Romantic movement sit at the same level because they are essentially two expressions of the same worldview. Rousseau provides the philosophical core; Romanticism turns it into a cultural force.
Together they supply the soil from which later ideologies grow:
- authenticity over rationalism
- the natural self as morally pure
- suspicion of civilisation and modernity
- the heroic individual
- the Volk as an organic cultural community (Johann Gottfried Herder’s contribution)
- emotion as a guide to truth
This is the pre‑ideological foundation that later thinkers will systematise, politicise, or weaponise.
2. Kant — the bridge from Romantic sentiment to philosophical structure
Immanuel Kant is not a Romantic, but he provides the crucial intellectual machinery that makes German Idealism possible:
- the transcendental subject
- the limits of empirical reason
- the autonomy of the moral will
- the distinction between appearance and reality
Kant gives later thinkers the architecture they need to turn Romantic intuitions into philosophical systems.
3. Fichte & Early German Idealism — the nationalist and voluntarist turn
Fichte stands at the same level as Early German Idealism because he is its first full expression. He radicalises Kant and fuses him with Romantic nationalism.
Fichte introduces:
- the self (“I”) as world‑creating
- struggle as the engine of moral development
- the State as educator and moral shaper
- the Volk as a spiritual community defined by language and culture
- the idea that national unity is a moral imperative
This is why the National Socialists later mined him so heavily: he provides a philosophical justification for unity, struggle, and State supremacy without the Marxist baggage attached to Hegel.
4. Schelling — the Romantic metaphysician
Schelling blends Romanticism and Idealism into a metaphysics of nature:
- nature as living Spirit
- the unity of mind and world
- the aesthetic as a path to truth
He is the bridge between Fichte’s voluntarism and Hegel’s system‑building.
5. Hegel — the system‑builder of history and the State
Hegel takes the entire Romantic–Idealist inheritance and turns it into a grand historical machine:
- the dialectic
- Spirit unfolding through conflict
- history as rational development
- the State as the embodiment of ethical life
- freedom as recognition within institutions
Hegel is the pivot point. From him, the ideological branches diverge.
- Marx takes Hegel’s dialectic and flips it upside down: materialism instead of Spirit, class instead of consciousness.
- National Socialists reject Hegel because Marx used him, turning instead to Fichte and Herder.
- Fascists borrow the Romantic–voluntarist elements (myth, will, unity) without the metaphysical system.
6. The Three Ideological Descendants
Marxism
- class struggle
- materialism
- historical determinism
- the dialectic inverted
- the State as instrument of class rule
Marxism is Hegel without Spirit, Romanticism without the individual, and Fichte without the nation.
National Socialism
- racial struggle
- Volk as biological destiny
- State supremacy
- unity through exclusion
- Fichtean nationalism + Herderian cultural unity
Nazism is Fichte radicalised, Herder racialised, and Romanticism weaponised.
Fascism
- myth
- will
- unity
- anti‑liberal modernism
- the State as a living organism
Fascism is Romanticism without Rousseau, Fichte without metaphysics, and Hegel with the “correct” dialectic.
7. The Big Picture
All three ideologies — Marxism, National Socialism, and Fascism — draw from the same Romantic–Idealist well, but each selects different ingredients:
- Marxism takes Hegel’s dialectic and Rousseau’s egalitarian moralism.
- National Socialism takes Fichte’s nationalism and Herder’s Volk metaphysics.
- Fascism takes Romantic will, myth, and the unified State.
They are siblings, not strangers — born from the same intellectual family, but raised in different political households.

Upstairs Downstairs: National Versions
Poland
Let’s start with the good news that is the path upstairs, Poland is now among the world’s 20 largest economies:
A generation ago, Poland rationed sugar and flour while its citizens were paid one-tenth what West Germans earned. Today its economy has edged past Switzerland to become the world’s 20th largest with over $1 trillion in annual output.
…
In 35 years — a little less than one person’s working lifetime — Poland’s per capita gross domestic product rose to $55,340 in 2025, or 85% of the EU average. That’s up from $6,730 in 1990, or 38% of the EU average and now roughly equal to Japan’s $52,039, according to International Monetary Fund figures measured in today’s dollars and adjusted for Poland’s lower cost of living. The article points out that it was done via the following steps:
- Rapidly building a strong institutional framework for business, including independent courts, an anti-monopoly agency to ensure fair competition, and strong regulation to keep troubled banks from choking off credit.
- Billions of euros in EU aid, both before and after it joined the bloc in 2004 and gained access to its huge single market. But also notice this fact:
Poland’s economy has grown an average 3.8% a year since joining the EU in 2004, easily beating the European average of 1.8%.
- Young Poles are better educated than young Germans but earn half what Germans do, which attracts investors.
It’s an NBC report (see their take on Cuba below), so not mentioned is that Poland did not do the following:
- Regulate the shit out of the private sector or individuals.
- Import millions of poorly educated deadbeats from the Middle East who have no interest in assimilating to the local culture but want to colonise it, as they’re doing with much of Western Europe.
South Africa
On the downstairs front the primary warning comes not from a nation at war or under sanctions but one enjoying the fruits of democracy and freedom, and which inherited a functioning society, albeit a racist one, South Africa. Not The Bee shows the decay in just the last fifteen years:

Okay, so that seems to be mainly around Johannesburg so perhaps there are parts of the country that haven’t decayed as badly. Perhaps if we have any South African readers they can comment.
South Africa has a goal and it appears to be Cuba

Cuba Becomes First Nation to Achieve Net Zero

I don’t understand why this isn’t being celebrated more widely? Besides, all Cuba has to do is add to the wind farms they already have, as well as solar panels, and then it could run its economy on the abundant renewable electricity without need for any of those evil fossil fuels – and they’d save money!
If your complaint is that this is only because the evil USA has cut off the supplies of oil from the Cubans former mate, Venezuela, then it should be noted that the Cuban power system has been breaking down for years because communism can’t run things well.
Also it was just over a year ago that we had President Biden and an administration full of zealous environmentalists who were using every governmental power at their disposal to force Americans to stop using fossil fuels. By Executive Order 14057 of December 8, 2021, Biden had directed all federal agencies to pursue an aggressive “all of government” operation to achieve “net zero” on an accelerated schedule.
Good thing President Trump is showing us what this means in practice.
This is the true legacy of the Castros: darkness, scarcity, and a nation pushed to the brink – not that the legacy MSM

Canada
Woah! Canada is a First World Nation, developed and all. Advanced. Right?
Well they are now poorer than Alabama, and that’s starting to show up in other ways than just plain old GDP per capita.

If you don’t want to click on X the surprise is this:
Medically Assisted Dying: 0 days.
Which is perfectly logical when you think about it. All those other methods only provide a chance for the Canadian healthcare system to reduce demand by slowly letting people die in a queue, whereas the MAID programme guarantees it almost instantly.
And remember that on the Global GDP per Capita (scaled for Purchasing Power Parity, PPP), Canada is #27, New Zealand is #37.
Perhaps they just need higher tax revenues?

New York State

I need people who are high net worth to support the generous social programs that we want to have in our state. Now, there are some patriotic millionaires who stepped up. OK, cut me the checks if you want to be supportive, but maybe the first step should be go down to Palm Beach and see who you can bring back home
Hochul, like most politicians nowadaysm doesn’t seem particularly well read because she should know better than to talk in such terms – “last refuge of the scoundrel…” and all.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have to look at the fact that we are in competition with other states who have less of a tax burden on their corporations and their individuals. And I would say remote work changed everything.
There were people who could only work in an office in Manhattan and work in New York state. And they were captives to our state, they were going to stay. We saw that that’s not the case. Wall Street businesses looking at Texas, they’re not going there because they have a nicer governor. They’re going there because of the tax rate. Also because of the crime, the housing costs, the crappy public services provided by the State governments, and all the other regulations, plus the possibility that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is the wave of the Leftist future in the state.
