The full Marvel Universe Series 4 #MarvelUK page, featuring characters we all love and definitely remember!
The full page also makes it clear this group is posing in and around Stonehenge.

Card 134: Death's Head II
Doctor Necker strikes again, with Death's Head's toothier, presumably thrashier, brother!
-
Card 134: Death's Head II
Oh hey, it's the Marvel UK character probably recognizable to the most people!
Remember when "2020" felt like a far distant future year? Good times. 🫠

Card 133: Die-Cut
Was this guy on a team with Foil-Embossed and Hologram called the Cover Gimmicks?

Card 132: Wild Thing
Wild Thing was apparently once a "cyberspace addict" aka all of us today.
Too bad they don't mention the time Wild Thing helped Cleveland get into the ALCS...
-
Card 131: Dark Angel
The character whose original name invited the litigious ire of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang!
-
Card 130: Bloodseed
I'm starting to wonder if even the cardback writers know about these characters. From what I can gather, this guy is basically like if there was a mutant whose name was Mutant.
-
Card 129: Motormouth
Ah yes, the classic "bitten by a trans-dimensional moped" origin.
Interesting that Killpower is more prominent on both the front and back, but doesn't share billing on the card name.
-
Card 128: Techno Wizards
Is the way my eyes kinda glazed over and my head hurt slightly while reading the cardback description of these guys what happens to normal people when encountering the wider Marvel Universe?
-
Card 127: Black Axe
New page: Marvel UK! Nothing says "1993" quite like "Marvel UK"!As for Black Axe, more like "Black Can Opener", amiright?

Thinking about Death's Head lately with the new toy in my hands and I think the biggest crime of Death's Head II was that, under the "Marvel UK" banner, they took an extremely British character and murdered him to bring in a bog-standard Edgy 90s replacement. Because Death's Head was very much dry British humour mixed with an also very British kind of offbeat space sci-fi.

This series' first issue was one of our original #DollarBinDiscovery topics! This was the last one I needed to complete the entire run... it was weirdly hard to find.

New episode! What do you get when you mix 70s pulp with 90s Xtreme™ aesthetics and use “gold ink” as your marketing gimmick? The answer is Bloodseed, one of the final books from Marvel UK in the 1990s!

Also worth noting the 1980 black and white UK version avoids having to explain why the 1962 US Hulk was originally grey and not green. #Hulk #TheIncredibleHulk #Marvel #MarvelUK

Growing up in Ireland in the ‘70s/‘80s, my main exposure to US comics, specifically Marvel and DC, was via reformatted, black and white, usually wildly out-of-date, UK versions of the originals. Example one is the US Lee/ Kirby Hulk origin story comic (1962) which I read in the 1980 Hulk UK Annual. #Comics #ComicBooks #ComicStrip #Hulk #TheIncredibleHulk #OriginStory #Marvel #MarvelComics #MarvelUK #Annuals #1970s #1980s #JackKirby #Ireland #Mastodaoine

Well this is sad news. Artist, writer and editor Paul Neary has passed away. I don’t think it can be understated how actively involved Neary was with shaping the careers of many people involved in British comics. Editor-in-Chief at Marvel UK during the expansion of the early 90s, and an artist in his own right. A definite loss.

A battle for the ages! This scene is reminiscent of a fight between Galvatron and the ever-popular Dinobots in issue 102 of the Marvel UK comic!
Galv-antagonist here in the colour his original toy was mysteriously released in (totally different from his movie dark purple appearance).
Who won? Despite the Dinobots' strength it's likely the super powerful Galvatron *would* have won; only the appearance of the current Decepticon army made him flee the scene!
