The collapse of accounting is such an ominous and fractally weird phenomenon, it inspired me to write a series of hard-boiled forensic accountancy novels about a two-fisted auditor named #MartinHench, starting with last year's #RedTeamBlues (out in paperback next week!):

The archives of *2600* were critical when I was researching and writing *Picks and Shovels*, the third #MartinHench novel, which comes out in Feb 2025. I relied on *2600*'s DRM-free ebook archives:

    2600.com/Magazine/digital-back

Keeping ebooks DRM-free means that they don't contribute to high switching costs that lock you into platforms that harm you. If you can quit a platform and keep your ebooks, then the second a platform sours, you can bolt for the exits.

That realization sits behind my series of #noir novels about the two-fisted forensic accountant #MartinHench, which started with last April's #RedTeamBlues and continues with #TheBezzle, this coming February:

    us.macmillan.com/books/9781250

A typical noir hero is an unlicensed cop, who goes places the cops can't go and asks questions the cops can't ask.

"How did lose the keys to the kingdom?"

That's easy, it's because there's still humans in the process. This is part of the plot to @pluralistic's new : Red Team Blues.

  18. I'm very much looking forward to Cory Doctorow's ( @pluralistic) new #book The Internet Con, which promises to provide a solution to our current #enshittification problem.

Speaking of #Doctorow, how rare is it to have an author that can successfully write #fiction & #nonfiction the way he does? I finished Red Team Blues a few weeks ago and I think it is a fantastic setup for a new series, I'm eagerly awaiting the follow-up: The Bezzel. #MartinHench shows that retirement can be the beginning.
