  7. I just finished a batch of 18+ jars of marmalade. In the past I posted live updates of marmalade making, but this year it's just the final results. I wasn't able to get enough Seville oranges this year, so I added some Olinda (heirloom Valencia) oranges and some Meyer lemon juice. It still tastes great, though less fragrant than the absolute best pure Seville marmalade I've made in the past.

Crowdfarming allows you to select the grower. I ordered a 4kg box, enough to provide marmalade for a year.
The oranges are directly transported from him to me.
The box smelt delicious, the house filled with the smell of oranges before I even got the first pan boiling.
Because I have energy limiting conditions and can't stand for long, I just boil half of them then extract the pulp. The other half my home help peels (with a potato peeler) then shreds the peel and juices them for me.
I add a tiny bit of sugar to help preserve it, plus carb free sweetener. Then because it won't set well without loads of sugar I boil it down over several days (I bought an electric pan stirrer for this). The result is the strongest marmalade you'll ever taste.
It keeps in the fridge for at least a year.

In the past, I've ordered other stuff from crowdfarming but bought oranges from my usual supermarket. This year they stopped selling them.

  12. Planning ahead for a weekend project: Make Future Marmalade. I think this year it will be the Spiced Ginger Marmalade recipe that adds a bit of cinnamon and cloves to the ginger biketoworkbarb.blogspot.com/20.

  18. Battle of the marmalades. 💪 Commercially made marmalade (left) vs homemade (right) 😋 One tastes nice, the other one tastes great with more depth of flavour: fruitier, more bitterness... Just a bit too solid. 😁 Not a bad start of the making-marmalade-journey. 🤗
