  2. "Trump stands for masculinity as misogyny, dominance, exploitation and — as per Zuckerberg — aggression."

We are now ruled by strutting little empty-headed and empty-souled peacock men arrested in adolescence, puffing out their chests and feathers to make us imagine they're as big as the universe.

But we see, those of us with eyes open. We see who and what they are.

  3. "This is exactly what you would expect in a country where the standard-bearer for the 'return' of masculinity to the political and cultural world is Donald Trump, a selfish, petulant and narcissistic man-child who celebrates his rejection of the traditional masculine virtues of duty and restraint and who has done so for his entire career on the public stage."

  4. Bouie notes how Zuckerberg now imagines he can project masculinity by adopting symbols of coarse masculinity appropriate to a teen or very young man, not a grown man:

"He is nearly a year past 40, but he dresses like a bro. Imagine a 22-year-old at an S.E.C. tailgate. …

When Zuckerberg speaks of 'masculine energy' and 'aggression,' he seems to be imagining the 'masculinity' of an older teenager or a younger adult."

  5. Jamelle Bouie notes that Zuckerberg whines about how corporate leaders are being emasculated when a large majority of corporate executives are men. In Zuckerberg's Silicon Valley world, women are very much a minority. About 25% of tech jobs are held by women and only 4.7% of Silicon Valley150 companies have a female CEO, with roughly 6% of companies in the S&P 500 with women CEOs.

  6. Little men. Little men talking big, about themselves and their vaunted big masculinity.

Empty little men trying to fill the emptiness inside with perishable goods and fleeting power.

Empty sad little men who look in the mirror and see a brawny giant when the rest of us look and see a pathetic small man.

  7. He concludes,

"The answer, I believe, is that many (not all!) rich men are extraordinarily insecure. I’ve seen this phenomenon many times, although I can only speculate about what causes it. My best guess is that a billionaire, having climbed to incredible heights, realizes that he’s still an ordinary human being who puts his pants on one leg at a time, and asks, 'Is this all there is?'”

  8. Noting that "much of the political and business world is prostrating itself at the feet of the least-qualified man, morally and intellectually, ever to occupy the White House," Paul Krugman asks why.

As he points out, great wealth gives people extraordinary power, so the billionaires now willingly in thrall to Trump can't be buying power or self-respect from him.
