Western Australia is hopelessly captured by the fossil fuel industry. They control a large chunk of the news media, and they (along with other mining interests) bankroll government. We have to find ways to combat our conversion into a petro-state.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced he is retiring from politics in a bombshell announcement few saw coming.Rumour has it that he's retiring due to burnout. My sympathy goes to him and his family. This reminds me of Jacinda Ardern having to quit as New Zealand PM due to burnout — you work your guts out for years, and then one day it hits you that you have nothing left in the tank.
I'd like to thank Mark McGowan for being a Premier who's strong on policy that encourages equality, jobs, much-needed honesty after the shitsow from the LNP, and overall giving a fair go for all. And — it should be noted — Mark McGowan held strong against pressure from the outside in order to protect the people of Western Australia from COVID.

It's really good to see the widespread condemnation for the West Australian Premier's comments regarding Banksia Hill and Unit 18. McGowan has form when it comes to using scare-words like 'terrorism' to avoid dealing with complex issues. Banksia Hill and Unit 18 are full of kids with comlpex problems who should be receiving psychological and medical help, not continuing imprisonment and institutionalisation. How 'bout we shut down Banksia Hill and use the savings to provide the necessary services, instead of our "leaders" appealing to the kind of moralism and knee-jerk law-and-order bullshit that got us into this mess in the first place.
