  1. @Hesperalis Food production is a real issue.
However, politics and society favour industrial over ecological sound production.
The median gross income for gardeners in veg/fruit production in Germany is 2709€/month. That leaves you with about 1900€ net.
Our poverty threshold is ~1450€ net.
The best income for gardeners is on a cemetery: ~2400 net
Making places for dead people "presentable" is valued ~900€ gross higher than proper food for the living. That says all.

  2. Hottest market day of the year so far. The market opened early, which meant we were behind in getting set up. Lower traffic but have done alright.

  3. Mediocre weather hasn't kept folks away from this morning's farmers market too bad.

It's only an hour in and everything we have left is on the table... Still plenty of tomatoes to sell, some peppers some eggplants... But that's about it.

(That's actually a pretty good place to be, considering what we brought.)

  8. How can we give people more incentives to set up market gardens? Prices going up ought to do that in a competitive market, but thanks to the supermarket oligopoly and their gouging of both customers and suppliers, we don't really have one of those.

So what can we do, as the public, to help people who like growing fresh produce make a comfortable living doing it?

  10. Do I run a market garden when I don’t sell produce? shouldn’t I rather call it an allotment or veg patch?
I reckon it qualifies as a market garden because I run it like a professional market garden and a lot of reading about market gardens went into the planning. … feinschmeckergarten.de/index.p

  11. @RallidaeRule Try anything by Eliot Coleman, the American pioneer of #WinterHarvest in #MarketGardening. Easy reads, sound advice, nice bloke.
I have and can recommend the "Winter Harvest Handbook". Even if you don't want to grow veg, it gives a good understanding for the growing conditions in the cold season.
