  1. @vantiss Spent an afternoon at #FitzgeraldMarineReserve near #HalfMoonBay. The #MarineLayer was just skimming the coast. Walking the beach and looking in #tidepools helped clear my head!

  6. Here in the sandycruz mountains, hanging up clothes outside to dry works until the fog rolls in. Then the clothes quickly get wet again.

  7. Topic of conversation for Southern California today is: gloomy dark marine layer.

Ham radio net: everyone complaining about the gloom and dark and fog.

At the hardware store: overheard more than one person talking about the gloom... the checkers saying it looked like rain.

(unusually gloomy for spring for SoCal).

  8. A beautiful, hypnotic example showing that the atmosphere is a fluid just like the ocean, as waves of marine layer air and clouds crash onshore. Weather is awesome.

  9. Fog. Overcast cloud blanket. Delicious. After the brutal and persistant heat wave since the beginning of July, we awoke yesterday and today with the summer respite known on the West Coast of North America as “the marine layer.” It’s our blessing in the heats of summer, and its silence envelopes us with calm in the mornings.

  10. From NWS Los Angeles:

"Southwest California continues to be mired in a deep marine layer
and strong onshore flow pattern as a result of persistent troughing along the West Coast. While not atypical to have low clouds in May and June, this year does seem to be a little more gloomy than usual. The trough is expected to start loosening its grip Sunday into next week that will bring about a warming trend, especially by Tuesday, with the main focus being the deserts and other areas far removed from the still chilly influence of the Pacific Ocean.
