  1. Tesla's profit margins compressed sharply: operating margin fell to 1.4% from 4.1% a year prior, and earnings per share missed estimates. The company delivered record units but at tighter margins, signaling the tension between growth and profitability. implicator.ai/tesla-arranges-u #Tesla #Earnings #Margins

  2. 2 “While the milestone suggests that #AI companies are beginning to cover the cost of their #capitalspending, the #margins are thin. #Depreciation charges still consume more than two thirds of revenue, leaving a small buffer to cover other costs such as power, labor and financing.”

  3. Let the race to the bottom BEGIN!

Companies that are already losing $$, about to go IPO, and now they want to lower prices - I smell a classic HBR case study/fail article will result!

Reports are circulating that OpenAI and Anthropic are about to enter into a price war for their offerings. 5. "America's tech giants' #margins are now everyone else's #opportunity. The trillions that US tech companies extract could be someone else's billions – all they'd have to do is offer the #interoperable goods and services that disenshittify America's tech products. They could sell the tools that let anyone in the world use independent #appstores, or fix their cars and tractors, and put generic ink in their printers. A year ago, no country could afford to allow a company headquartered in its borders to get into this business, lest they be clobbered with tariffs. Today, any country that isn't thinking about this is a #sucker that will end up buying these tools from another country that gets there first."

  7. I wrote some thoughts about margins, potentially moving back to Italy, living on the edge(s), togetherness + a few other delirious epiphanies after spending one week with a group of wonderfully insane and astoundingly bright humans in the middle of the Appennine Mountains.

  9. “Bosses betting on #AI to slash #headcount and boost #margins are discovering an uncomfortable truth: the #strategy isn't working.

New research from #Gartner lays out the problem in stark terms. The analyst firm surveyed 350 global businesses - all with annual revenues above $1 billion, all piloting or deploying #IntelligentAutomation - and found that around 80 percent had cut #staff as a result.

The returns? Elusive. Companies that reduced their workforces were just as likely to see negative outcomes or marginal gains as they were to generate any meaningful return on #investment

  11. Most startups don’t have a formula problem, they have a sourcing problem. Founders overpay for inputs, buy specs users don’t need, and depend on one supplier, quietly eroding margins. The product can be fine, but smarter sourcing, negotiating volume discounts, qualifying alternate vendors, redesigning specs to match demand can unlock much stronger unit economics, higher gross margins, and improved cash flow. #startups #sourcing #uniteconomics #margins #supplychain

  16. I can't help it, I love beautiful, modern, minimal designs. Most user interfaces just don't appeal to me. Book apps, in particular, often feel old-fashioned. There's nothing wrong with old things though; retro tech from the 80s and 90s has its own charm, and people really knew how to make beautiful things back then.

But bad UI is a different story, it's clumsy, built with off-the-shelf frameworks without much thought, and often lacks proper design guidelines, plan or structure. That's why I can't use Bookwyrm, for example.

I read a lot and have mostly been using getbookshelf.com on iOS along with a CSV file since leaving Goodreads. Right now, I'm checking out alternatives. Even StoryGraph doesn't quite do it for me. margins.app looks promising, and Bookcover is okay but missing some features.

So, if in another world I decided to make my own fork and app, contribute to Bookwyrm, and completely refresh its UI like I did for Mastodon with the Mastodon Bird UI - what would you think of that?

  18. European #car manufacturers, not so long ago, bragged that they could reduce volumes more and still make more money from #margins.

Dudes, no one likes your product, everyone thinks it sucks and it's way too pricy. Been like that for a couple decades.

So you burnt through your political capital, you still got "reprieve", and now you're deeper in the crap.

    no sympathy.

  20. Tesla ends 2025 struggling with falling demand, aging models, shrinking margins, and delayed AI ambitions like robotaxis and Optimus. Competition especially from Chinese EV makers is surging, and the end of U.S. tax credits hit sales hard. Energy storage is growing, but not enough to offset weakening automotive cash flow.

  31. question about . Cross-posted at statalist.org/forums/forum/gen

As described at the above link, I am estimating `margins` (predicted probabilities) of a regression. I am finding that in some cases the point estimate of one group is inside the confidence interval of the other group, but a test nonetheless indicates a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Any insights on this seeming paradox would be appreciated.
