Took this photograph at the equinox about three weeks back but only just got around to processing it.
Time it just right and weather permitting, the sun sets slap bang in the middle of Sunderland's Wearmouth Bridge in NE England twice a year from this viewpoint (although I did need a set of small step ladders to peer over the fence that was put up a few years back!).#england #sunderland #landscape #sunset #equinox #march2026 #photography

The honey-coloured stone of Belsay Castle in the Northumbrian countryside pictured reflecting the light of this afternoon's early spring sunshine.
Association with the Middleton family who were first referenced in connection with Belsay in 1270.
Work on the castle, which began as a substantial pele tower with turrets and battlements, began in 1370, reflecting a time when the area of the English and Scottish borders were often in conflict.
When James VI of Scotland united the crowns of England and Scotland In the early 17th century the lands became more peaceful, less fortified extensions were added, as seen to the left of the original stronghold.

Looking forward to the heady scent of Ramsoms accompanying springtime woodland walks at locations like this in East Durham, NE England.
Better known as 'Wild Garlic', I was surprised to discover the plant goes by quite a few other names. One such name is cow's leek as seemingly cows love to eat them.
I was reading that down in Devon, dairy farmers have occasionally had the milk of their herds rejected because of the garlic flavour imparted to it by the cows having grazed upon the plant.
