🗺️ Hann. was? Das „Hann.“ in Hann. Münden steht für „Hannoversch“. Ein Hinweis auf die frühere Zugehörigkeit zum Königreich Hannover und zur Unterscheidung von Minden. Hier werden außerdem Werra + Fulda = Weser. 🌊 #MapMonday

💧 Ein Bach war früher weit mehr als ein Gewässer: Er lieferte Trinkwasser, trieb Mühlen an und machte Siedlungen überhaupt erst möglich. Deshalb tragen seit dem 8. Jahrhundert so viele Orte in Deutschland die Endung -bach. 🗺️ #Ortsnamen #MapMonday

🥐 Klingt französisch, ist es aber nicht: Eltville spricht sich „Eltwille“ aus. Der Name geht auf das lateinische alta villa 🏛️ zurück (“hohes Dorf” oder “hoher Hof”) und verweist auf einen fränkischen Königshof. 🏰 #Rheingau

This large inscribed stone was erected in 1967.
