  2. Many Māori people in New Zealand are protesting new government plans. They worry the plans will take away their rights and change important agreements. Large marches and actions in Parliament show how unhappy they are.

  3. "#NewZealand MPs who performed #haka in parliament given unprecedented punishment

#TePātiMāori co-leaders and youngest member to be temporarily suspended from #parliament after performance protesting controversial bill"

The bill in question (the #TreatyPrinciplesBill) wanted to reinterpret the #TreatyOfWaitangi (1840), which upholds #Māori rights

    The bill was defeated

I think the proper response to a bullshit punishment for protecting #MāoriRights is a lot more hakas

  4. Weakening this agreement not only undermines Maori rights but also risks creating deeper divisions in society. Not honoring this agreement means returning to a history of injustice rather than building on reconciliation & respect for all. The agreement should not be seen as a gift from the British colonial power. It’s a hard-won right & an acknowledgment of their losses. It’s about acknowledging that the imbalances that were created still affect groups 200 years later.

Te Ao Maori News (via #CensoredNews)

"With the Hīkoi mō te Tiriti only halfway to Parliament, ACT leader David Seymour’s Treaty Principles Bill has gone through its first reading.

"During the count of votes for and against the bill, #TePātiMāori MP #HanaRawhitiMaipiClarke stood up from her seat starting a haka directed at Seymour, which her colleagues and MPs from the #Greens and #Labour joined. When people in the public gallery above joined in loudly, Speaker Gerry Brownlee suspended Parliament for an hour until the gallery was cleared."

  6. CW: How Progressive New Zealand Shifted Right
This is well worth a look to get an outside view of current racism in NZ government. Could have done with a bit more from the Māori resistance side, but did expose the racist attitudes of the people who want to undermine the rights of Māori and ‘reinterpret’ Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
