  1. What happens when you spend too long cataloging lines, rubrics, crosses, and prayer structures in a 16th-century prayerbook? Apparently I default to poetry. Send help.

  11. Sad to hear that Peter Beal, specialist on early modern manuscripts, has died.

I met Peter in the mid-2000s when the Institute of English studies was preparing for the CELM project bid.

  12. The #Schoenberg Institute for #ManuscriptStudies is pleased to introduce #BASIRA - Books as Symbols in #RenaissanceArt, a new, #openaccess online database of representations of books and other textual documents in the figurative arts between approximately 1300 and 1600 CE.

  13. My latest article, "Bloodstained Books in Renaissance Sicily: The Library of Matteo Barresi, Marquis of Pietraperzia," is out! Incredibly grateful to I Tatti Studies in the Italian Renaissance for hosting this side project of mine—which triangulates book collecting, princely fantasies & murder in sixteenth-century Sicily.

(Get in touch if you don't have access and would like to read it! I'll send you a DM with a copy.)

  14. Queens of Jerusalem tells the story of an extraordinary, trailblazing dynasty of royal women who ruled the medieval Middle East (or Outremer), and how they persevered through instability to seize greater power.

  15. So I've even managed to migrate over to hcommons.social from lingo.lol. It was a lovely instance, but I quickly became aware that I'm probably not a true philologist (though I might dabble), I'm indeed a #LitStudies scholar.

So here is my re-introduction. I am a Lecturer (=Asst.Prof in North America) in #Hindi at #ANU (The Australian National University). I also serve as the Deputy-Director of #SARI (the South Asia Research Institute).

    I work on #poetry #music #gender & #memory in the premodern regional courts of Eastern #SouthAsia in #Hindi-Urdu #Maithili #Bengali #Sanskrit and #Apabhramsha.

I am increasingly working on community-oriented practices of #digitalhumanities while working with manuscripts. I do that stuff over on ANUBhasha (www.anubhasha.org) that I co-run.

I'm also a passionate Urbanist who is interested in the structures (both physical and social) that make cities the best place to live.

  19. Since I (also) switched to hcommons.social a few days ago, here is my third #introduction!

I am a PhD student in Islamic and Arabic Studies in Münster, Germany, working on practices of evidence and strategies of verification of prophetic descent in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century North Africa. In particular, I am examining texts on a particular descent community claiming prophetic descent: the descendants of ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jilānī, from a translocal perspective.

Also: I am excited to see something growing here that I didn't think was possible a few months ago. Glad to be here with you all!

fyi: I have enabled automatic deletion of posts after one month.

  24. In a rare instance (ba dum tiss) of timely insight, I've changed instances to #hcommons before making too many posts! I suppose reintroductions are in order.

I'm a PhD candidate studying the sociology and structure of the #RareBookTrade specifically focusing on #manuscripts , #fragmentology , and #bookbreaking. Here's hoping those tags fill up more! My background is in #materiality and #ManuscriptStudies, and I'm a private librarian by day. Part of #medievodons and #BookHistodons. I mostly post about #HeritageCrime of various forms, plus some photographic experimentation (and cats, of which I have two).

    Pleased to meet you all!
