CW: Grave Slavery
Just learned of #TombTuesday. Here's the grave of #JamesMars (1790-1880), born into #slavery in #Canaan_CT who later in life gained his #manumission. He wrote a #memoir that "stands as one of the most important account of the cruelties and uncertainties of life for the enslaved in New England". The memoir is called "Life of James Mars, A Slave Born and Sold in Connecticut". Yes, the scourge of slavery existed in Connecticut.
