They are quite literally feeling your presence in the water, reading your steady heartbeat and calm energy. It is an active, two-way conversation of biology! -

Does this look like a manta ray?
I wanted to make a sun-catcher for my 5-year-old neice who loves both rainbows and the ocean, but this is my first time trying wire art.

Manta rays living beyond the continental shelf occasionally make very deep dives--to more than 500 meters and as much as 1,200 meters. The purpose is unclear, but is proposed to support orientation or navigation prior to long-distance travel (75-200 km).

For a long time, manta rays were considered a single species.
In 1868, Australian Museum director Gerard Krefft suggested a second species, though, it was only in 2009 that a paper confirmed the reef manta ray as a valid species distinct from the giant oceanic manta ray.
A recent study has now confirmed - there’s a third species of manta ray gracefully gliding through the seas.

The name yarae comes from Yara, a mythical figure from the Indigenous Tupi and Guaraní cultures. Yara is known as the mother of the waters, a powerful spirit of beauty and protection. Naming this ray after her is both a tribute and a call to action. The formal recognition of Mobula yarae opens the door for targeted conservation efforts.
