Christ is dead, and I'm not living for a dead jew. If I were to live for a dead jew, I'd choose one of the "good ones" mentioned in Viktor Frankl's #manssearchformeaning - ie the ones who didn't make it. Or maybe one of the ones who did. There's plenty of dead jews to go around.

It takes some unpacking to go from 'everything I don't like is vanity' to music, I'll admit. I've dedicated years of my life to music, to providing music for free to the world, and years more to making music possible, though, and so take this "you don't really care about music" and shove it.

It's not about extra steps. It's about there being more to life than living as a subsistence farmer. Which is most of what you could hope for when those pages were written.

It's not "just" a city. It's a city that was destroyed, in a region that has been rebuilt, destroyed, rebuilt, destroyed as waves of civilization pass over it, and waves of theists have destroyed it in the name of god. It's a lesson to all of us of the folly of neglecting your responsibility of a human being, and allowing for your flaws to be put on some scapegoat and letting a god justify your behaviour.
