  2. Am reading my 5th Jane Austen novel: Mansfield Park, and oh man. I identify SO HARD with Fanny. Not sure what that says about me.

(Narrator: She knows EXACTLY what that says about her.)

  5. Jane Austen mentions second breakfast in Mansfield Park, published 123 years before The Hobbit.
"Soon after the second breakfast, Edmund bade them goodbye for a week, and mounted his horse for Peterborough, and then all were gone." (Ch. 29)

  8. Been wanting to get something from the #JaneAusten #fabric collection by #RileyBlake for a while now. The #MansfieldPark series was on sale from #MissouriStarQuiltCo today so I'm finally adding it to my #quilting stash.
    #WIPWednesday

Found two other pretty fabrics while I was on the site and ordered those too. (Lavender with tan vines and blue with swans.)

  9. My first Austen.
Quite different from what I expected.
Everything seems to be about wealth and money.
Interesting and challenging - I just did not get a few sentences and verbs and expressions.
And I think we overanalyse and project too much when reading classics.

    Mansfield Park, Jane Austen

    8/10

  11. A close reading of #JaneAusten's work shows that she was indeed very political. For example, she denounces the slave trade in #MansfieldPark and her brother Henry was an abolitionist.

I'm not here to debate your voting choices as long as you vote!

  13. TFW you're reading a Regency romance and the author has BOTH lead characters diss your 2nd favourite #JaneAusten in favour of the oh-so-predictable choice. It is a truth universally acknowledged that #MansfieldPark does not get the love it deserves.

  15. One of the MOSTEST NOIREST of my #KDrama bêtes noires is vile villains getting off scot-free. Happily, there was none of that namby-pamby nonsense in the excellent #MansfieldPark - if only I could write 1% as well as #JaneAusten

"shut up together with little society, on one side no affection, on the other, no judgement, it may be reasonably supposed that their tempers became their mutual punishment"
👏👍👏 I love alliteration, so I like saying in Hindi

  17. #MansfieldPark may be the least cheery work of #JaneAusten but it has still made me laugh out loud several times thanks to her keenly realistic observation and razor sharp understated cynical wit. This was the most recent example for me

  19. I really struggled to finish #Emma because the incomparable #JaneAusten succeeded far too well in her apparently stated intention of creating an unlikable protagonist. HOWEVER, as I approach the halfway point in #MansfieldPark, the noxious Norris makes Emma seem the epitome of all that is sweet, lovable and good.😡👿

  21. Jane Austen was such a sharp observer of human nature.
Maria Bertram sees the natural results of her choices approaching:
"It was a gloomy prospect, and all that she could do was to throw a mist over it, and hope when the mist cleared away, she should see something else."
