🖌️ HOW THE RABBIT IN THE MOON CAME TO BE🤔
The Heian period 'Konjaku Monogatarishū' includes a retelling of a far older Buddhist tale, explaining how Taishakuten (帝釈天 'Commander of the 4 Heavenly Kings', and sometimes depicted as the 'Old Man of the Moon') came to draw the image of a rabbit on the moon.
On the day of the full moon a rabbit, fox and monkey decided to perform acts of charity to earn them merit in the afterlife.
