  1. A blue door with a coal hole cover in front of it, Lancaster, England

I’ve walked past these coal hole covers for over 20 years without realising what they were en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_hole

To be fair, they're next to squarish covers labelled "Water" and even the roads nearby don't have coal holes

  2. In my defense, I had no idea that #ManholeCoverMonday was a thing here, or I'd have been participating long ago. Bits of artistic infrastructure fascinate me. Here's the first one I could find on my phone, on the grounds of the former #ValleyForge General Hospital, a military hospital now used for a Christian college. I'm not sure which foundry the 'W' represents – it appears to say "Contractors F[oun]dry Inc", and Phila, 1942.

  3. I got this card in Atami, Shizuoka, Japan. It depicts the climactic scene in Ozaki’s novel ‘Konjiki Yasha’ (Diamond Demon), a tragic love story of Kan-ichi and Omiya. Kan-ichi is the man Omiya was to marry. When a wealthy merchant’s son proposed with a giant diamond she refused Kan-ichi. When Kan-ichi found out, he proclaimed Omiya had been swayed by the Diamond Demon. This story made Atami a very popular tourist spot in the 1600’s and it’s still so today! #manholecards #manholecovers #マンホールカード

  4. My #SewageSaturday post this week is from Leipzig, Germany. The coat of arms shown on the cover is of Leipzig City, and apparently can only be used here as protected by law! The lion on the left side of the coat of arms even dates back to the 14th century. Classical, old fashioned cover design, beautiful nonetheless.

  5. Taking the chance to start sharing/documenting my collection of #artistic manhole covers from various places around the world. This particular one is from Keelung, north #Taiwan , and is located near a tourist spot, hence the decorative design and the plug type cover.
