"Mandurah’s newest repair cafe is giving locals an opportunity to have their broken treasures repaired, reused and transformed by a group of crafty volunteers.

"With their ethos being to reduce as much landfill as possible, the skilled volunteers are fixing clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, toys and more at the cafe, which opened last month.

"The group is led by #FalconCommunityMenshed president Ben Curnow and was given start-up support by #LakelandsRepairCafe, which operates in the Lakelands Shopping Centre on the second and fourth Saturday of each month."

  7. The official opening of Mr #Dambo's #trolls
    - colossal installations that have been dotted throughout the world by the artist and climate activist
    - took place, with state-wide excitement and unusual creatures already being spotted, and shared on social media.

The 12-month long exhibition not only brings magic into #Mandurah, but aims to educate about the environment,
with six trolls hiding in all sorts of places around town.

"I always wanted to have my trolls sit in the Australian bush, because I like to see them in a place that looks magical," the artist said.

"The nature is super intriguing to me, everything looks like it's out of an alien movie, a lot of the plants and such."

In pre-Christian Denmark, trolls comprised much of the folklore, providing reason for the movements of nature which were otherwise unexplained.

Today, story-telling of this fantastical nature is still woven through Danish culture, colouring Mr Dambo's childhood, and even adult life, through songs, stories and movies.

An avid fan of fairytales and epic adventures, Mr Dambo's youthful spirit has never faltered from the early days where he would rent out cassette tapes from the local library.

The child-like spirit in an adult is often squandered by devastating realism, practicality and logic.
Mr Dambo said this spirit is simply a part of his day to day life.

  9. Travelled out to Bull Creek on the Mandurah line this afternoon. Between Elizabeth Quay and Kwinana, the Mandurah line runs along the centre of the Kwinana Freeway, with Canning Bridge, Bull Creek, Murdoch, Cockburn Central and Aubin Grove stations also in the centre of the freeway. It's a good use of space, but the stations are noisy and windswept.

Most Mandurah line trains run through to the Joondalup line. Between Perth and Butler there is a similar arrangement with the railway line running along the Mitchell Freeway.

The train speed south of Perth is 130km/h and North of Perth is 110km/h, with road traffic limited to 100km/h. It's a great thrill to zip past the traffic, but a bit of a letdown when the train has to stop at the station.

  19. CW: Images of a Christmas Jewel Spider eating a Mosquito

Image series I took today of a Christmas Jewel Spider eating a Mosquito (I think, looks engorged... I wonder if it's my blood 😅) seen at Mandurah today.

Alt text for the photo series: The photos show a dark morph Christmas Jewel Spider in it's web. The spider is black with amber stripes on it's 8 legs. The small spider has a relatively large "cap" for its rear which has a number of black spikes with streaks of amber on it. The side of the cap has yellow stripes and spots. The whole effect is quite beautiful. The spider manipulates it's web to draw in a small mosquito with red blood inside it. Over the image series the mosquito and spider draw closer until the spider holds the mosquito in it's embrace.

The web is delicate and made of distorted parallel lines. The background is blurry and lush green.
