Los giros de guion se han convertido en rutina. El problema de la consolidación del plot twist es que ingerir tantos nos produce efecto rebote: pierden eficacia, por acumulación o por adivinación, porque sentimos llegar el siguiente y el otro y el otro.
El equipo de la Carpenter lo sabe. Ahí queda el estreno polémico de la portada de Man's Best Friend.
Luego está el contenido del disco, un sobrado contrapeso a cualquier interpretación sumisa que se haga de la imagen. ¿Era esta necesaria entonces? Para agitar las redes en tanto salía el disco y luego darle un giro con las canciones sí.
Manchild, tan sobrevalorada, lo apuntalaba. Sabrina sabe escribir letras donde tiene las riendas, y escritas de un modo fresco y directo que envidio. La muestra es el medio tiempo We Almost, tan bonita.
En ninguna composición se arrodillaría para que un tío le jale del cabello (excepto si hay consenso previo). En My man se subraya a sí misma para bien. Esta y la final resumen el largo.
El disco (un estilo de enorme futuro) Tears vuelve a la idea con un video de muerte gratuita y horrores cuirs con un Colman Domingo guapísima, de preguntarle a qué hora es el cruising de los viernes. ¿La canción? Soberbia aunque demasiado preparada para el éxito, algo que se nota tela cuando anuncia el dance break, por ejemplo.
Sabrina es casi todo marketing, al menos en esta era. Y lo digo sin encontrar canción mala, aunque suenan planas Go Go y Don't Worry, y plana la noventas House Tour. En tanto que solo interesante la kyliera When Did. A Nobody's en cambio, da pena que le falte ese gratinao que la haga plato gourmet.
Pese a concentrar lo mejor al inicio, la final Goodbye es fabulosa. Un rico track de querencia country, setentas europeo, de teclado y arreglos de quasicampanitas enormes. ¿El nuevo Please?

Aunque los engranajes funcionen, sigue poniéndoles grasa.
Carpenter y su equipo deben de pensar así: hay que aprovechar el renacimiento de la/su estrella.
Tras Short n' Sweet (2024) está por llegar Man's Best Friend (2025). Y lo hace de la mano de un sencillo de cabecera que, curiosamente, se quedó fuera de Short, y por tanto está firmado por las mismas manos.
Lo primero que viene a la mente es que estaría bien que cerrase etapa creativa y moviera ficha renovando parcialmente al menos a su equipo, otro productor principal (Antonoff, date un descanso) y autores.
Manchild, que es de lo que tratan estas notas, hubiese sido una canción modesta en Short, como mínimo uno de los últimos sencillos, esos que se usan para estirar el éxito pero no para atraerlo.
Si bien cantó a dúo la más que buena Please con la Parton (nuestra musa), Manchild recoge parte del espíritu country pop de aquella mucho mejor plantado.
De hecho, este tema vira hacia el country donde Please se recreaba en un sinte y arreglos ochenteros cantados susurrados a lo Marilyn asmr. Algo que no luce tanto como pretendían en el estudio.
Manchild suena a continuar estirando una fórmula que les ha ido bien sin que lo parezca, a copiar en un examen cambiando frases a la vez que manteniendo las palabras clave. La línea de sinte retro, el estribillo casi compuesto íntegramente por el título de la canción estirado, el tipo de humor... ahora con leves tintes country.
El video que presenta este single tampoco tiene una línea clara. Un conjunto de escenarios (dicen que con inspiración en El sheriff chiflado, 1979 y 2005) y gags de humor katyperryano montados con nervio nervioso nerviano. Algunos están bien pero ninguno se disfruta pues se suceden muy rápido.
Suena bonito. Será agradable oirla casualmente por ahí, fuera de mis listas.
