Yesterday was a good day... I had a #mammogram and a bone scan that returned normal results.
Two years ago, a mammogram revealed #breastcancer in my left breast (which has since been removed via #mastectomy).
Last year, the mammogram on my right breast showed something suspicious requiring a more intensive mammogram and then a followup mammogram 6 months later. I am relieved for the all clear on the right breast this year.
Cancer sucks big time! But today I celebrate.

I'm grudgingly catching up on my preventative health care today, booking a Mole Map appointment and signing up for BreastScreen Aotearoa.
And if anyone else in NZ is 45 and over and wants to sign up for a free mammogram here is the link I'm sticking it here because it took me WAY too long to find it on my own.
I may have just turned 45 but I am way overdue for both because
a) I had a melanoma at age 29 and
b) I have a breast cancer in my family history but not immediate enough family to qualify for a funded early mammogram (was my grandma and my aunt, but they only care if it was your mum or sister). -

Free genetic testing. Free screening recommendations. And #science! I found out I have a relatively high polygenic risk score, despite my general health and low family risk, so I can make better decisions about my screening now. Like, say, getting a mammo every year, regardless of how much I dislike it...

Apparently, one can reveal as much of one's breasts as one pleases... With the exception of the nipples. Not the nipples! Are they bad or something? Taboo? Why? I feel like an extraterrestrial because this makes no sense at all, especially since it only applies to women, not men.
What makes sense, however, is making an appointment for a mammogram. Please do not put it off!

Another mammogram done. Damn, that hurt. I sent a pic to my BFF in Edmonton of the BC Cancer screening mammography sign so she knew I was going for a mammogram.
Her response: Jesus haven’t you endured enough pain??!
Right?! That’s why I’d been delaying it over 7 months since receiving the letter.
They let me take the walker right in so I was holding one hand on the torture machine and one on my walker.

Today I booked my screening mammogram for next week before I return to working from home. My new doctor asked me about it on Monday. I told him that I’m overdue because I received the notice when I was dealing with my right stress fracture late last year and then I have been dealing with the left foot surgeries.
