I couldn't find Mama Lemon earlier this evening, then when I went to brush my teeth I heard her calling me by the back door. She somehow sounded different than usual so I went to investigate. Turns out she had gone out to get me a thoughtful gift. I told her "Thank you." ♥️

The food bowl got a fresh refill but Mama Lemon just wanted love. I still find it hard to believe how far she has come, from being scared and not letting us anywhere near her to leaning against my leg and purring while getting scritches. She still very much needs to interact on her terms in order to feel safe, but I am confident in saying we gained her trust. ♥️

Sitting outside again with Mama Lemon, I aimed my flashlight into the backyard and all I saw was her zooming through the light beam like this, hunting bugs in the grass. And a moment later she charged at an unsuspecting hedgehog who didn't want to play with her. 😂 I would never have thought a month ago that this little lady could be such a hyper weirdo.

Sat outside with Mama Lemon before going to bed. She suddenly walked up to something just around the corner. I heard and saw movement but couldn't quite make it out in the dark. So I set my camera to night mode and snapped a pic. It's another member of the family who has been visiting more recently. We named him/her Dickie because of the shape of the white spot on his/her snoot. And also because we're childish 😁 Dickie is adorable btw.

I was drinking my coffee outside with Mama Lemon this morning. Suddenly I felt something tug at my leg. Turns out our indoor weirdos got it from her after all. At this point I'm convinced that we never saw her play before because she was on guard around Tux, who had a tendency to play a little too rough for her liking.
That doesn't make me miss him any less, but I am glad to finally see this side of his mama. ♥️

We have never seen her play until a few days ago. She spent most of the last two days on the porch, but while I was tidying up outside just now I saw her hunting bees in the thyme flowers. So maybe thyme does heal all wounds. (Sorry, I had to 😁)

Tux has been fighting again, so he came back to his safe haven to lick his wounds (which is a pattern I've noticed with him) His mama was seeking shelter from the recent stormy weather, so they're keeping each other company. It's adorable that they still do this when one of them is feeling low, But I also wish neither of them were feeling low.
Life for stray cats can get pretty shitty tbh, that's why we keep our own cats indoors.

It seems like Lucy's (and Lemon's) mama is also having one of those days. I went to lock the backdoor before going to bed. But then I heard a familiar noise. So I opened the door again and she immediately strolled inside. Yes, she did get a midnight snack. 😸
(Side note, she's still separated from her daughters by an additional door. That's a spontaneous family reunion I don't want to risk)

Mama Lemon suddenly showed up again! She screamed at me, headbutted my legs while I was going to grab her some food, and she ate like she hadn't eaten in weeks. Then she ran off with a full belly after some noisy neighbours startled her.
It definitely seems like someone has been looking after her, her fur looked great and despite her dramatics she looked pretty well fed. Big relief 😊

Attempt number...? I lost count. Mama stopped sleeping in her shelter somewhere last week. As it turns out, her butthead son had been peeing all over it to mark his territory. 🤡 So now I've cleaned everything, added fresh straw, made a pee-barrier out of garbage bags and then treated everything with pheromone spray. It just reached freezing temperatures here so fingers crossed! These cats sure keep me busy 😝
