#TIL about #mamachari bicycles. A basic utilitarian bike design that represents 80% of the Japanese bikes on the road.
It's apparently got a rather vague definition, but it's a solidly built, long-lived (1956) design with baskets, fenders, chain guards, and often kids' seats.

Lovely #cargobike concept. We really need more of those compact utility bikes (mid-tail cargo). Especially if they're light and affordable.

Mamachari are Japan's ubiquitous big, utilitarian, and often electric bikes, used to transport children, groceries and pets.

Loving the range of bikes and e/bikes in #Tokyo, probably the #Mamachari #ママチャリ with child seats dominates, with upright (Dutch style?) next most common (like the ones for sale in the first photo). But plenty of fat tyres, folders, etc (second photo). #BikeTooter #eBike
