Little bit of today's history: The Battle of Maldon (Maeldune) was fought today in 991CE somewhere very near Maldon, Essex, on the banks of the Panta (now the Blackwater). It was fought on a causeway; possibly Northy Island or more likely Fullbridge Causeway. Essex Alderman Byrhtnoth was killed. The Norse Jarl Olaf Tryggvason (later King of Norway) who headed the Viking army won the battle and was paid £1.3m (2022 equiv) in gold by King Aethelread the Unraed.

We had a fantastic day at the Underland market, and many clothes were sold - if this year's Underland looks like a 90s rave, it's totally our fault!

if #Maldon #Essex high street is "thriving" to the point folk are #parking in dangerous places and arguing with one another in the street, surely its a sign its reached capacity and it wouldn't be a big issue if some folk do their shopping online instead, or if they have #cars then just drive to Chelmsford, or if they actually live in the town consider another form of #transport ?

I had a look myself and I suspect a big reason is folk simply being too stubborn/lazy to find the Council car parks and insisting they should be able to park in the middle of the High Street (its not the 1970s any more!)

Had a road trip today to the regional town of Maldon. Visited the local railway station, which is volunteer run and is home to a steam train service which runs twice a week.
