The importance of this cannot be understated. While Joel "invented" the show and the early versions of the Bots, it was Trace who rebuilt them for the Comedy Central era and built most of the props that weren't Joel's Invention Exchange items. Him being the Art Director will mean that MST3K will look... like MST3K, possibly more so than it did under just Joel.

Mike, Kevin, and Bill are talking about why they're returning to MST3K after all these years doing Rifftrax and it's honestly charming. They're just nerds and love doing their nerdy things and are very excited to get to play with their puppets again

OH MY GOD.
Remember how a week ago people were freaking out about Joel formally selling MST3K to Shout!?
Well... it's not the result I was hoping for (a lo-fi Emily-led reboot), but honestly it's the best possible outcome.
And the people seem to agree, their kickstarter is currently at $1,121,703
pledged of $20,000 goal with 41 days to go.And unlike Joel, Mike and the RIfftrax team have a good working relationship with Trace (Dr. Forrester), Frank, Mary Jo (Pearl Forrester), pretty much anybody from the original years aside from Josh.

#MST3K's "Gorgo" starts out as a "King Kong, but with a dinosaur" knockoff when a sea monster is purchased by a London circus, then pulls a switcheroo when the monster's much larger mother arrives to rescue her baby. Godzilla-like rampaging ensues.
#DnD players are always trying to talk DMs into letting them capture and train monsters. Why not let them, then let them meet their new pet's mother?

The (very) basic story of #MST3K's "Girl in Gold Boots" is "country girl hooks up with an abusive thug to escape her abusive father, becomes a go go dancer, then needs to escape the thug."
Limited potential for a #TTRPG adventure plot, but #DnD 5E players seem to like giving PCs dramatic backstories. It would probably work best for a rogue of some sort. Might be too down-to-Earth for lot of modern players not. There isn't even one secret deity in that story!

In #MST3K's "Doctor Mordrid," the secret sorcerer is for some reason giving academic lectures on the occult.
Reminds me of a #SuperheroRPG idea I never used -- a supernatural superhero with a secret identity as a "cult expert" advising police. Basically cons the cops into finding crimes for him, gives them bad advice, secretly solves the crimes as a superhero, and leaves the cops with a lot of "unsolved crimes." Might work as a hook for a modern #HorrorRPG, too.

In #MST3K's "Prince of Space," an alien who's frustrated that Earth doesn't surrender the minute he lands spends the rest of the movie improvising dumb plans to convince Earthlings to give up (including kidnapping scientists who don't think they're as influential as the alien does).
Combining stubbornness and poor planning makes for a very episodic alien invasion, which is what a #TTRPG needs: A new dumb evil plan every week, not just a military bug hunt.

You know what? Centaurs, chimeras, and pegasuses are silly combination monsters, too, but they don't seem silly to most Westerners because those monsters are part of a culture we grow up with. "Silly monster" is just a cultural bias against monsters you didn't grow up with.

If you're better at this than me, let the interdimensional aliens show them some essentialist universes based on the players' favorite #boardgames and #tcg universes.
Make them think: If board games take place in essentialist dimensions, and #TTRPG universes are mixed "exi-essential" dimensions, what is a purely existential universe?
It's the REAL WORLD, that's what it is. The ultimate cosmic revelation. The true (and horrifying) enlightenment.
Blow their minds, man.

In #MST3K's "The Bubble," a small town is trapped in a mysterious bubble, presumably by aliens who are never shown, until outsiders stumble into the town and somehow convince the aliens (who are still never shown) to release the bubble. (I assume one of the villagers in this movie grew up to be #stephenking.)
That plot doesn't sound fun for a #TTRPG, but it reminds me of an #ADnD idea I never used. This one is going to require a short thread, so hold on.

"The Beatniks" is about a delinquent (not really a beatnik, though) trying to go straight (to become a crooner!), but keeps getting dragged down by old delinquent friends he won't drop.
For a #TTRPG game, get the PCs hired to separate a reformed delinquent from his bad friends before things get really bad. Maybe the PCs are officially bodyguards, or maybe their job is completely "off the books."
