  12. Here’s the thing about suggesting “cooking classes” as an alternative to insulin for diabetics.

It’s ignorant. It’s ableist. It’s eugenicist. We know all of this.

    It’s also incredibly privileged.

It assumes that healthy eating is accessible to everyone & that not doing it is a choice

Setting aside the fact that a healthy diet won’t cure diabetes, we need to address this regime’s insistence on blaming people for their disabilities. For being poor. For being unhoused. For being an “other”

Every time they open their mouths privilege & blame comes out

Healthy eating costs money. Can it be done more simply & affordably than what wellness grifters recommend? Of course.

Is it as affordable or accessible as processed foods? No.

People need to consider all the factors involved.

You need access to a kitchen, cookware, condiments and the ability to afford the hydro costs of running your stove more frequently.

Contrast that with a microwaveable meal? There’s no comparison

You need to have the time to shop for fresh ingredients, put them away, do food prep and the actual cooking.

If you’re working two jobs just to make ends meet? You can’t do that.

You have to account for spoilage. Fresh ingredients don’t last forever.

If money is tight, you can stretch your food budget further by relying on processed and frozen meals.

There are food deserts in many cities where you can’t even find fresh affordable fruits and vegetables.

Lastly you need the physical ability TO cook.

There’s a world of difference between taking a cooking class and making food from scratch day in and day out.

I say this as someone who adored cooking. I spent a year as a raw vegan making all kinds of goodies from scratch. It was a blast

It was also expensive, time consuming and exhausting.

There’s no way I could do it with my disabilities.

Most days I’m lucky if I have enough energy to eat, let alone prepare a healthy meal.

If it weren’t for my caregivers, I would be 100% reliant on microwaveable meals

Should I be blamed for that? Of course not.

But these fascists would blame me. Just like they’re blaming so many others.

They propose so called “common sense solutions” and yet fail to apply any actual common sense

If they truly want people to be healthier, it isn’t that hard.

Start with universal healthcare and basic income. Childcare. Paid time off. Clean air and water. Masks in healthcare. Free education. Vaccines. An end to food deserts and more affordable fresh food.

What they’re doing won’t create a healthier population. It will cull the “undesirables”.

The poor. The marginalized. The disabled.

It’s eugenics, and people need to pay attention before it’s too late.

Call it out whenever they spout this nonsense, and demand better.

  17. Ignorance, ableism and blame all in one interview.

Makary claims they’re “putting every kid on Ozempic”

The reality? About 4000 prescriptions were issued in 2023 for those ages 12-17 and it’s not available for kids under 12.

He says they’re “throwing insulin at people” who should have cooking classes instead.

No amount of healthy eating can fix type 1 diabetes. People with the condition literally die without insulin, which currently costs EIGHT times more in the US comparable to Canada and other similar countries.

    This is eugenics.

  32. #Marty #Makary, MD, MPH, rose to national attention by
❌ skewering the medical establishment in books and papers and bashing the federal response to COVID-19 on TV.

Now the Johns Hopkins University surgeon and researcher has been
    🆘nominated to lead the FDA.
The agency -- responsible for regulating products ranging from toothpaste to vaccines -- is famously understated, issuing carefully worded statements devoid of opinion or scientific speculation.
