  1. CW: NZ - Dirty Politics II - Maiki Sherman

    The National Party has resorted to using Dirty Politics again, this time with Ani O'Brien playing the part of Cameron (Slug Juice) Slater.

    Yes, TVNZ's political editor Maiki Sherman did call another reporter a 'faggot', in response to something he'd said to her. But it was it was 12 months ago during a National Party drinks session and she did apologise at the time.

    With Luxon's leadership under pressure, National decided it was timely to flick the story to the terf O'Brien and another good journalist becomes the story then is lost.

    Here's a whole bunch of reactions to Sherman being "hounded" into resigning. Most commentators are equally disgusted by TVNZ's decision to hang out their star reporter to dry with no obvious support in place.

    I'm old enough to remember when TVNZ was still a public service broadcaster.

  2. The character assassination of TVNZ political journalist Maiki Sherman;

    ... reminds me of what happened to Metiria Turei, and to Benjamin Doyle. Old scuttlebutt dug up, and then a campaign if sustained harassment of the person, the institution they're part of, and in Metiria's case, her whānau.

  3. "A formidable leader in her day. [Helen Clark] delivered three terms in Government for the left..."

    If the Clark regime was ever on the left, certainly by the end of it Labour had drifted far to the right of centre;

    So Maiki's claim here is nonsense. Unless you accept the facile argument that whatever policy Labour adopts is, by definition, the policy of "the left".

    Otherwise, this was a very good article.
